Country music fans in Lubbock will have to wait a little longer to see Brooks & Dunn perform live. The duo's concert at Texas Tech University's United Supermarkets Arena was originally scheduled for March 13, 2025. It has been postponed to March 20, 2025, due to an explosion on campus.
Per Billboard, the incident occurred on the evening of March 12, 2025. It led to multiple fires and power outages. University officials, emergency response teams, and local authorities were reportedly quick to act together to contain the situation.
Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec confirmed in a statement that classes were canceled for Thursday and Friday. Power was also temporarily shut off across the Texas Tech and Health Sciences Center campuses.
The university worked with the concert organizers to reschedule the event at a later date.
Brooks & Dunn posted an Instagram story announcing the show postponement

"Brooks & Dunn’s performance at United Supermarkets Arena originally scheduled for tonight, March 13, has been rescheduled for Thursday, March 20, due to the events on the Texas Tech University campus in Lubbock, on Wednesday, March 12."
The incident that led to the postponement of the scheduled show was an underground explosion in a utility tunnel on the Texas Tech campus. The explosion sparked fires that spread to multiple areas. It naturally prompted emergency teams to shut down electricity and gas supplies as a precautionary measure.
Smoke and fire were reported emerging from several manhole covers on campus, and some buildings, including the Engineering Key, were evacuated due to gas.
Lubbock Fire Rescue reportedly worked alongside local utility providers such as Lubbock Power & Light and Atmos Energy to contain the fire and prevent further damage.
By late Wednesday night, the fire had been extinguished, reports suggest. University officials decided to cancel classes and close the campus for the next two days to ensure safety and allow for necessary repairs.
Texas Tech University took to their official X (formerly Twitter) page to share:
"Brooks & Dunn’s performance at United Supermarkets Arena originally scheduled for tonight, March 13, has been rescheduled to Thursday, March 20, due to the events on the Texas Tech University campus in Lubbock on Wednesday, March 12."
It added:
"All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date, and additional tickets are available at the link below. If you are unable to attend the new date, refunds are available at your point of purchase."
The Brooks & Dunn concert has been rescheduled for Thursday, March 20, at 7:00 p.m., with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Fans who already purchased tickets can use them for the new date, and additional tickets are available for those who missed the initial sale.
Refunds are also being offered at the original point of purchase for those unable to attend the rescheduled show.
