Cardi B will be stepping in for The Weeknd as the headliner of this year's Global Citizen Festival.

Billboard has reported that the After Hours singer had to bow out of the performance, scheduled for Saturday, September 27, on the Great Lawn in Central Park, New York. He penned an apology to his fans about the same on his Instagram Stories on Monday, September 22:

“I regret to share that, due to personal reasons, I am unable to perform at Global Citizen. Thank you to my fans for taking action with them, as I believe in their mission deeply. Thank you for understanding and support.”

The singer was initially slated to take to the stage alongside Shakira, Tyla, Ayra Starr, Mariah the Scientist, Camilo, and Palestinian-Chilean singer Elyanna.

Everything you need to know about Global Citizen as it joins forces with Cardi B in a bid to end poverty:

Pitchfork has reported that Hugh Evans, the co-founder and chief executive of Global Citizen, has since issued a press statement acknowledging Cardi B's new role as headliner:

“We are incredibly grateful to Cardi B, who has joined the Global Citizen Festival lineup. She’s an outstanding performer, who will light up Central Park in spectacular fashion. We wish the Weeknd support and want to thank him and his fans for all taking action with us to help end extreme poverty.”

The songstress, who recently debuted her sophomore album, AM I THE DRAMA?, also echoed the sentiments:

“Central Park, I’m coming for you!!! I can’t wait to be home in New York, and to bring my new songs and all the DRAMA to the Global Citizen Festival. This one’s not like other music festivals—this one is about coming together to help children around the world, and I’m so proud to support such an important cause. New York City—see you Saturday. Let’s get it!!!”

Hugh Jackman is slated to host this year's festival, which will be streamed live on YouTube. The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Global Citizen is the world's largest bid to stifle poverty. It sees several prolific figures rally together to raise awareness.

Co-hosting the festival are Bill Nye, Adam Lambert, Danai Gurira, and Liza Koshy. Kristen Bell, Tony Goldwyn, Laurie Hernandez, Nate Burleson and Vladimir Duthiers will also take to the stage as speakers.

As for Cardi B, her sophomore album reportedly got Platinum certified by the Recording Industry Association of America the day it debuted, and the songstress will be hitting the road for her 30-day Little Miss Drama Tour next year.
