Vertigo Vinyl, a record store, recently shared that the sales generated from Taylor Swift’s records help them pay their yearly rent. On August 25, the X account of Vertigo Vinyl shared a post, writing that many of the comments on their posts came from accounts with Swift profile pictures.
A user replied, saying that the Cruel Summer singer and her fans were helping keep the vinyl industry alive. Vertigo Vinyl then replied to the comment:
“I’m not joking when I say Taylor Swift sales alone pay our yearly rent.”
In another X post, Vertigo Vinyl mentioned that last year, Taylor Swift’s albums Reputation and TTPD together earned them $128,000 in sales. They mentioned that record stores were thankful for the support and hoped to stock TLOASG soon.
A user commented below, writing that the exclusives are available for purchase from her official places. They added that if this goes on, Vertigo Vinyl would only have the standard version, which might impact their sales. The record store replied:
“Yep this always is tough but usually Webstore only focus is better than a Target, Walmart, Urban, Hot Topic, Tour, and countless other exclusives with no indie exclusive (one big album this year did that and it was pretty frustrating). Indie stores haven’t been left out yet on a Taylor campaign thus far, so we have hope.”
A user joked, saying it would be fun if the store got an exclusive album pressing, and hinted they might actually want it to happen. Vertigo Vinyl replied:
“haha one can dream… but perhaps some are in the works with her smaller openers…”
Taylor Swift on her version of Red and her favorite song from the album
In 2021, Taylor Swift released Red (Taylor’s Version). When she appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon the same year, she said she was excited about the work. She had to re-record her older works, and while she was doing so, she found some of the songs she wrote that she thought she would include in her next album.
However, she said the next album turned out to be different, which made it difficult for her to include those songs. Speaking to Jimmy Fallon, she said
“And it turns out this, it's an opportunity for me to go back and re-record all the music that was on the original album, and then, what I'm really excited about is these songs that no one's ever heard before that were supposed to be on that album. And I've got artists like Chris Stapleton and Phoebe Bridgers featured on them.”
Jimmy Fallon asked Taylor Swift which song she was most excited for fans to hear. She explained that her top pick was All Too Well (10-minute version). It had been her favorite on the Red album, and fans ended up loving it just as much. She also said:
“And the way that this song was written was, I was going through a bit of a sad time. And think I was 21 when I wrote this, and I was in band rehearsals for a tour that I was about to go out on called The Speak Now Tour, and I showed up for rehearsals, and I just was really upset and sad and everybody could tell.”
Taylor Swift said she then played her guitar and repeated the same four chords. After that, other band members joined her, and the song kept building.
