Taylor Swift’s reign at the pinnacle of pop music only seems to be gaining momentum as the megastar continues to shatter streaming records. In the most recent news concerning Swift, her 1989 album has just surpassed 9 billion streams on Spotify. While this is an almost unimaginable feat as is, it is her fifth album to do so.

1989 (Taylor's Version) is a re-recording of Taylor Swift’s fifth studio album. It is part of her ongoing re-dubbing plan as far as her music is concerned, following the dispute over the master recordings of her back catalog in 2019. It was released by Republic Records in October 2023, although she first announced that she’d be working on the project at a performance from the Eras Tour in Los Angeles earlier in the same year.

It is best described as an 80s-inspired synth-pop album characterized by catchy melodies, rhythmic textures, and a distinctive sound rooted in synthesizers and drum machines. It contains newly recorded versions of the 16 songs from 1989's original deluxe edition, as well as five previously unreleased "From the Vault" tracks. Swift and frequent collaborators Jack Antonoff and Christopher Rowe produced the majority of the album.

1989 (Taylor's Version) marked the Bad Blood singer’s 13th number-one album on the Billboard 200 and record-extending sixth album to sell over one million copies in its first week.

1989 has been referred to as "The Pop Bible" by critics for its impact on the music industry. In 2024, it was placed at number 18 on the 100 Best Albums by Apple Music.

1989 (Taylor's Version) now holds the record for third most streamed album in a single day on Spotify. It achieved this on October 27, 2023, with 176 million streams. At the time, the album was second to Swift's earlier Midnights, which debuted to 184 million streams. Both were eventually surpassed by The Tortured Poets Department, an album Taylor conceived while on the Eras tour that logged 313 million opening day listens.

Not only that, Swift's release of 1989 (Taylor's Version) also made her the most-streamed artist in a single day in the DSP’s history.
