Nelly Furtado recently clapped back at critics, who engaged in body shaming directed at the singer. According to People Magazine, the "I'm Like a Bird" singer sent a subtle yet powerful message to her critics through her choice of outfit during her performance at the Manchester Pride.

Nelly Furtado is currently on her Summer 2025 tour, that began earlier this month with a performance at Tienen, Belgium, at the Better Than Ever Festival on August 1. This tour will see Furtado perform across Europe at several summer festivals, with the latest being her performance at the Manchester Pride.

More about Nelly Furtado's response to her critics, as singer performs at the Manchester Pride

During her performance at the Manchester Pride on Sunday, August 24, Nelly Furtado appeared on stage wearing an oversized T-shirt with an hourglass figure painted on it. The outfit choice was seemingly a quiet yet impactful reply to her critics.

According to People Magazine, the T-shirt featured a drawing of a woman's body wearing a white tank top, a short skirt, and a belt that reads "Whoa Nelly." On the back of her outfit, the words "Better Than Ever" were written, symbolizing how Furtado feels about her life at the moment.

Back in January, the "Maneater" singer posted a picture of herself, posing in an orange swimsuit. In the caption, she spoke about self-love and embracing her "neutral body," writing:

"HAVE A BODY NEUTRAL 2025, 😉, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, LOVE WITH EVERY INCH OF YOUR HEART ♥️. This year I became aware of the aesthetic pressure of my work in a brand new way, while simultaneously I experienced new levels of self-love and genuine confidence from within. My New Year’s message for 2025, is express yourself freely, celebrate your individuality and know that it’s perfectly OK to be OK with what you see in the mirror and it’s also OK to want something different.”

Back in September 2024, Furtado also opened up about being diagnosed with ADHD after welcoming her children, whom she shares with her ex-boyfriend, rapper Gerard Damien Long, who goes by his stage name, Jerry. Nelly Furtado, who also shares a daughter with ex-boyfriend Jasper Gahunia, spoke about her lifelong experiences with short attention spans, and said:

"When I was attending college, [I was like] 'Boing, boing, boing, boing.' I've had it my whole life. But when I had my two youngest in close proximity, it made me very aware of my ADHD. Yeah, it's an everyday sort of study and focus, like, 'How do we ground ourselves today?' A lot of people are struggling with that. How do we focus? How do we ground ourselves? We have so much distraction — you have to give yourself grace."

Nelly Furtado is next set to perform at the Off Days Festival in Hamburg and Berlin, followed by a performance at the Super Bloom Festival in Munich on August 30.
