Neil Young, a famous singer with both U.S. and Canadian citizenship, is worried he might not be allowed back into the U.S. after his Europe tour in June and July 2025.
His worries come after recent reports of a French scientist and U.K. Subs, a punk band, being blocked from entering the U.S., reportedly for criticizing Donald Trump.
Young has given statements against Trump in the past on his website and now fears that speaking out could keep him from entering the U.S. for his tour in the August, where fans are waiting to see him.
The singer released a statement on Neil Young Archives on April 2 that said,
"When I go to play music in Europe, if I talk about Donald J. Trump, I may be one of those returning to America who is barred or put in jail to sleep on a cement floor with an aluminum blanket. That is happening all the time now."
He further continued,
"If I come back from Europe and am barred, can’t play my USA tour, all of the folks who bought tickets will not be able to come to a concert by me. That's right folks, if you say anything bad about Trump or his administration, you may be barred from re-entering USA. If you are Canadian. If you are a dual citizen like me, who knows? We’ll all find that out together."
According to Neil Young, any negative statement about Donald Trump during his Europe tour could potentially lead to him being denied entry to the US, leading to the cancellation of the show.
UK punk band U.K. Subs was denied entry into the US
U.K. Subs, an English punk rock band, currently consists of four members, namely founder Charlie Harper (lead vocalist), Steve Straughan (guitarist), Alvin Gibbs (bassist), and Stefan Häublein (drummer).
The band was scheduled to perform at the LA Punk Invasion on March 14. However, during the event, fans saw only Charlie Harper at the festival. Later, the bassist, Alvin Gibbs, added a statement on his Facebook account stating,
"Stefan, Marc and I were all denied entry into the USA whilst somehow – perhaps he used a Jedi mind trick, or, more likely, caught an immigration officer at the end of their shift eager to get home – Charlie managed to get in."
He further added,
"I’m now wondering if my regular and less than flattering public pronouncements regarding their president and his administration were a factor; or maybe that’s just me succumbing to paranoia."
Neil Young, according to his statement, talked about the same topic, which stopped the band from entering the US. Neil Young, in the new statement posted on April 2, further added,
"I love America and its people and its music and its culture. Remember Freedom of Speech? By these latest actions of our US government, it seems that those who speak out freely with their own opinions are now vulnerable to a non-existent Trump law."
Neil Young will be starting his European tour in June and is expected to start his American tour in August, while the U.K. Subs’ next steps remain unclear following their recent denial of entry.
On March 31, 2025, Donald Trump signed an executive order to combat ticket scalping. During the signing, he invited Kid Rock and urged authorities to enforce the BOTS Act strictly.
