Frozen waffles and pancakes have recently been recalled from major supermarket food chains, such as Target, Walmart, Publix, Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Tops, and more due to their potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
The recall has been initiated by Treehouse Foods, the Illionis-based food producer. The manufacturer has also recalled brands such as Kodiak Cakes, Simple Truth, and Foot Hold. No illness has been reported so far, related to the consumption of contaminated waffles.

On the 18th of October, 2024, Treehouse Foods voluntarily called for a recall of its frozen waffles and some other frozen desserts, such as pancakes after a potential listeria contamination had been identified by the routine testing of the products at one of the factories.
The recall has been informed to the Food and Drug Administration and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

Listeria is a bacterial disease caused by food that can be harmful to older adults, newborns, immunodeficient people, and pregnant women. It is currently the third major cause of death from a food-borne illness in the USA.
Some common symptoms of the disease are fever, headaches, stiff neck, loss of balance, confusion, muscle aches, and fatigue. Some symptoms may also affect the functioning of the intestines, and cause diarrhea or vomiting.

"due to the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes."
The company has asked shoppers to:
"check their freezers for any of the products listed above and dispose of them or return the recalled product to the place of purchase for credit."
Meanwhile, surveys and examinations are conducted at the food manufacturing points over the ingredients used in the production. Consumers have been instructed to check the product label carefully for any recall notices.
If purchased frozen waffles from a recalled brand, it is important to check if the waffles are part of the recall, and immediately return them to the store for a refund or replacement.
