Multi-national conglomerate McDonald's' Chicken Big Mac hit the stores on October 10 and will be available for a limited time only, while supplies last. While it may look like a typical Big Mac and comes served on a Big Mac Bun, along with the classic Big Mac sauce, cheese, lettuce, and pickle slices, the kicker is that it comes with two tempura battered chicken patties, with no onions.
According to Fox 10, McDonald’s said "the sandwich will be offered for a limited time at participating locations while supplies last."
The idea was first put through a test run in the UK and Ireland, following which it had a stint in Miami in 2022. However, some outlets featured the special earlier than expected, such as in Indianapolis, where it retails for $4.59, and El Paso, Texas, at $5.99. According to the official press release from October 3, customers have been pleading for the special to debut in the US since 1968.
McDonald's calls on fans to decide if the Chicken Big Mac can be considered a Big Mac
McDonald's' official press release reads:
"Featuring the same familiar toppings as the Big Mac but with two tempura battered chicken patties, in place of the two all-beef patties, this unique taste gives fans what they crave and leaves them wanting more. So, on Oct. 10 head to your nearest McDonald’s to decide for yourself on if the Chicken Big Mac is not not a Big Mac."
The release also revealed that the chain opened up a one-day-only "McDonnell's" in LA on September 28. Run by the pop-up dining experience, Chain, with McDonald's controlling the show in secret, fans were served the Chicken Big Mac under a ruse, christened as a simple "The Chicken Sandwich" on the menu. Reportedly, fans loved it, even dubbing it "a McDonald’s dupe."
Tariq Hassan, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer at McDonald’s USA said in an official press release:
"With the introduction of the Chicken Big Mac, we’re excited to pay homage to one of our most iconic menu items, the Big Mac, and introduce it to a whole new generation of fans."
He continued:
"By tapping into some of our fans’ biggest passions from dupe culture to live-streaming, we’re able to serve up more than just a sandwich. There truly is something for everyone to enjoy in this campaign and we’re bringing experiences that will surprise and delight them, all before the Chicken Big Mac hits restaurants.”
