Instagram is discontinuing the Content Notes feature on posts and Reels. This was done because the feature did not gain popularity among users.

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, said that the app is eliminating features that are not widely used. They want to ensure that the features they leave behind are interactive, fun, and things that people really want to use.

Meanwhile, the Content Notes feature will remain in DMs, where it has been well-liked by users.

Content Notes, launched in July 2024, was a feature that enabled users to attach a brief note or message to their posts, carousels, and Reels. The notes were viewable only by followers and remained up for three days.

Instagram is said to be testing a new feature like X's community notes, where users can contribute by writing and rating notes on Meta platforms.

Whenever Instagram decides to add or remove a new feature, one thinks of the old "Following" tab.

Back in the day, it let you see what the people you followed were liking and doing, almost like being a digital Sherlock. This feature was highly popular, but eventually, the company removed it.

One of the reasons behind this was because of clutter. Another reason for its removal is due to privacy concerns.

It was also the case with this update. When the news regarding Content Notes being dropped broke out, users jokingly stated that they cared not about any other feature being introduced or removed—they just wanted their favorite Following tab restored.

Social media reacts as Instagram is officially discontinuing the Content Notes

Users roasted the Content Notes feature, stating that it's fine that it's no longer around because nobody actually used it in the first place. They teased that it was an entirely useless feature, just sort of sitting around with no purpose whatsoever.

A user @BoujeeNcvnt stated:

"The way nobody GAF."

Another user @ITboykal added:

"Thank god like why was it there."

A user @Bovada_Casino joked:

"That didn’t last long 😭"

A few users claimed that the Content Notes feature was simply occupying space on the app and was of no use. Others jokingly mentioned their "OG request," asking a feature that would tell them who unfollowed them so they wouldn't have to scroll through the entire list and count names to know who did it.

A user @WHITEH0TPEPPERS went on to say:

"thank GOD. it was the most useless feature."

One user @DiaryOfKeysus asked:

"Who was using it in the first place…"

A user @xoxoelsa stated:

"all i want is for them to show who unfollowed me."

One user humorously said they were sad as they no longer have a means to annoy their followers. Naturally, there were also individuals who simply wanted the "Following" tab to return.

Meanwhile, a user @tiido_bling lamented:

"Damn I won’t be able to annoy my followers anymore 😭"

And then there is a barrage of people wanting the Following tab back, including:
