There has been a lot of hype over the Nintendo Switch 2 release in the US. It was initially set to release on June 5, 2025, for $449.99, with pre-orders opening on April 9. But then "tariffs" came along, and everything went haywire.
Gamers were already joking about how pricey consoles are, but it turns out that price came before tariffs. Now, Nintendo has suspended pre-orders to sort things out. So, currently, many individuals' fantasies of having the newest console are put on hold.
But here's the catch—there's a little twist to the entire situation!
Japan's Nintendo Switch 2 store is offering two versions. One is a Multi-Language System, which retails for $480, more than the U.S. version. But then there's also a Japanese Language Only version, which is significantly cheaper at only $343—more than $100 less than the global version.
The low-end version is only available in Japan and can only be used with Japanese Nintendo Switch 2 accounts. It also only connects online in Japan.
But folks are still joking about relocating to Japan or even studying Japanese just to obtain the cheaper version of the Nintendo Switch 2. Of course, they're not serious, but the price gap has certainly caused some gamers to reconsider their citizenship decisions in a humorous manner.
Some users quip that this is just another reason to relocate to Japan, while others jokingly ask how much it costs to study Japanese.
Others are busy explaining how all of this isn't possible, reminding everyone that this is just fun internet banter and that relocating to Japan would involve working with a different currency.
But then many others don't care about any of that—they just want their Nintendo Switch 2 for $100 cheaper, and they're ready to relocate to Japan. That's it.
