The upcoming thriller Drop is poised to be a cinematic rollercoaster that promises both suspense and a healthy dose of humor and is scheduled to release in theaters on April 11, 2025.

With the premiere just a couple of weeks away, the hype machine is in full swing. The marketing team has played a blinder recently by hilariously placing a massive cell phone in Los Angeles.

Internet is in shambles as a massive DROP cell phone is spotted in LA

The team decided to go old-school by placing a giant cell phone right in the middle of Los Angeles, with the name DROP plastered all across its face. Although no one from the marketing team has moved forward to take responsibility for the stunt, the internet has been rife with speculation about the massive gadget.

The move invited a lot of attention from onlookers as well, who stopped by to watch the chaos unfold.

Once the internet got wind of the stunt, things spiraled gloriously out of control as users began to cook up theories of their own. No one really knows how the phone was placed smack bang in the heart of LA, and some nearly fainted thinking about the logistics involved. Did they hire a crane? A fleet of cranes? We will never know.

One fan (@BrandonDavisBD) hilariously took a dig at the discreet origins of the cell phone:

"Hard to say for sure it’s for DROP", joked the fan.

Nobody really knows why the phone’s there—at least, not officially. Some fans wondered if it was a metaphor for our screen-obsessed lives, while others imagined what it would be like to receive an airdrop from such a colossal device.

Whatever the motivations behind the stunt may be, it sparked a frenzied atmosphere on X as users shared their amusement on X:

"Insane promo for telephone 2.0", quipped one fan (via X / @moazzumjillani)
"Is this a movie promo or a new way to drop calls?", wondered another (via X / @novastellaris)

The massive size of the cell phone sparked a flurry of memes on its own as netizens' wildest dreams came true:

"Me trying to text back with this like it’s 2005: T9 mode activated", joked one user (via X / @solmeena)
"Finally, a phone big enough to see all my typos in full HD", quipped another (via X / @Asapteejo)
"Iphone 17 pro max ultra", remarked another fan (via X / @Wayakart)

There has been no official confirmation from the marketing team about the giant cell phone, and this gave netizens enough ammo to concoct conspiracy theories of their own.

These absurd theories ranged from fans debating if it was proof of alien surveillance or a Transformer in disguise. Some fans even suggested that it was a phone for giants as they tried to make sense of the absurdity.

The theories got so ridiculous at one point that a fan had to step in.

"Y’all make it sound like a wild pokemon", quipped the fan (via X / @TheLakersForum)

Another fan hilariously suggested the need for insurance for the giant cell phone that had the netizens howling in laughter:

"Whoever drops this phone better have AppleCare MAX", joked the fan (via X / @solmeena)

The Drop marketing team hasn't potentially just dropped a giant cellphone—they left a trail of madness behind as well. Nothing could have prepared netizens for the sheer absurdity of the situation as they all scratched their heads in unison. Meanwhile, debates continue to rage on X about the origins of the massive cell phone.

The marketing team has certainly done its job in building anticipation for the movie; the onus is now on the audience!
