If you’ve ever wanted to see your favorite League of Legends champions brought to life with real actors, questionable CGI, and inevitable internet outrage, you’re in luck. Riot Games is officially diving into the world of live-action television, with production set to begin in late 2025.

And where, you ask? Vietnam’s stunning Cát Bà Archipelago is a location that confirms we’re heading to Bilgewater or the Shadow Isles. Pirates, ghosts, or some unholy combination of the two? We’ll have to wait and see.

League of Legends live-action show: What we know so

far

The details are still as murky as the waters of Bilgewater itself. But what we do know is that Riot is moving forward with a live-action adaptation, and fans have... thoughts. Lots of them.

The internet exploded after the announcement, with opinions ranging from cautious optimism to outright despair. Some are excited to see the game’s lore come to life, while others think it’s about 12 years too late because, apparently, the right time for a League show was back when we were all dodging Teemo mushrooms in Season 3.

The post about the upcoming show went viral, not because people were thrilled, but because the collective response was a giant, resounding “Why?” League of Legends already has Arcane, a show so wildly successful that even people who’ve never touched the game were raving about it. So naturally, fans are wondering: Do we really need this?

There was the brutally honest take from (@bebopcore):

"No one asked for this."

Riot Games, looking at their years of cinematic success and Arcane’s awards: Are you sure about that?

A user summed up the mood perfectly:

"About 12 years too late huh?"

And honestly? Fair point. The game peaked in mainstream popularity years ago, and now suddenly we’re getting a live-action version? It’s like finally getting that new champion rework you wanted just after you’ve quit the game.

Another user wasn’t thrilled about the potential Hollywood treatment:

"Let’s hope it’s not woke."

Ah yes, because the real issue here isn’t whether a live-action Thresh will look ridiculous; it’s whether the deep lore of a video game about wizards and fish-people fighting in a jungle is being tampered with. Priorities.

Of course, there were those who were actually excited, including one user who passionately declared:

"On everyone’s soul we asked for this 😤😤😤😤"

Another fan commented:

"do we need this? no"

This is the League of Legends experience in a nutshell: absolute chaos. Half the community is flaming the idea, the other half is coping, and somewhere in the middle, Riot is just hoping we’ll all tune in anyway.

Well, it’s too early to say. While Arcane set the bar impossibly high, a live-action adaptation of League of Legends could still surprise us. Or it could be an absolute disaster, leading to another round of memes and collective internet suffering. Either way, we win.

Until then, we’ll just sit back, queue up, and wait for the inevitable moment when Riot drops the first teaser of League of Legends, and the entire internet explodes again.
