Legendary icon Bob Dylan has joined TikTok after the singer serenaded us with his raw poetic lyrics for decades. The 83-year-old made his grand debut on a platform dominated by lip-syncing teens and influencers doing questionable dances.

On January 14, 2025, he made a first post on the platform showcasing highlights from his decades-long career, set to his classic hit "Like a Rolling Stone."

And for those who just did not catch the memo, the caption had this to say:

"Discover the world of Bob Dylan, now on TikTok."

Some fans are completely here for it, but others are confused and wonder why now. Did he just discover the application or was he waiting for some storm of circumstances? FYI, TikTok is facing a potential ban in the U.S.

A user hilariously mentioned: "Does he know he has 30 minutes? 😭"

"a bit late mate 😭", said another. (@Angelica_Reed1)
A user (@Einthedarkness) commented: "A little late for that don’t you think…"
A comment (@outfotime) read: "he wanted to try and use it for 3 days."
A user (@GreekGeekPJO) went on to humorously decalre: "In 4 days, Bob Dylan will be banned from TikTok."
"Who’s gonna tell him", a comment (@joey_hutch) read.
A user (@debayo_xx) said: "Imagine going to a supermarket when it's just about to close."
"Bob Dylan on TikTok before GTA 6", a user (@Tony_the_uncle) highlighted.
Another (@VKay69420) chimed in to say: "Bro is older than like 7 different TikTok users combined."
Meanwhile, a user (@gkamilar09) stated: "this is like jumping onto the titanic after it already hit the iceberg."

Bob Dylan joins TikTok

Known for being the voice of his generation, Bob Dylan is jumping onto a platform that's all about viral trends, and that too at a time when it's facing a possible shutdown in just days. Talk about timing.

This isn't Dylan's first foray into social media. He also has an official Instagram and X (formerly known as Twitter) handle. Earlier, he used X to drop some deep thoughts on his biopic, "A Complete Unknown," but TikTok?

And now, just days before the app could be banned on January 19, 2025, he's got us all asking: Is it just pure, unintentional comedic timing?

Why is TikTok facing a potential ban?

TikTok is at the chopping block in the United States over concerns of national security, primarily as a result of its Chinese origin. The U.S. Supreme Court is now scheduled to pass an agreement that could either compel the parent company, ByteDance, to exit the American market or let the company bypass closure before January 19, 2025.

U.S. officials say TikTok is fetching a hoard of information to be handed over to the Chinese government. The FBI director went public in addressing the app as a "national security risk," suggesting that China's laws can lead to the mandatory surrender of highly sensitive information by companies.

And then, the very real fear that something—such as TikTok's algorithms – that gave us unlimited dogs doing backflips, could be weaponized for misinformation or manipulation of public opinion.

The bill to ban the app has drawn strong bipartisan support in Congress as concerns mount about China possibly spying through or even worse with the use of TikTok.

All of this traces its origins to the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversaries Controlled Applications Act (PAFACA), a bill President Joe Biden signed in April 2024 that authorizes the federal government to shut down apps from foreign entities the government thinks present a risk to national security.

Yeah, it's a big deal.
