Avengers: Doomsday is reportedly on the verge of rolling cameras in April 2025. MCU Phase 6 is making big moves and the Russo Brothers are back behind the camera. Avengers: Doomsday marks the beginning of two consecutive Avengers movies, with Avengers: Secret Wars expected in 2027.

With the constant date changes, social media wasted no time making jokes. Fans are already bracing for disappointment, with jokes about the MCU fumbling yet another major film.

A user joked:

"Can't wait to see how they screw this up!"

A user commented:

"Looks like we are gonna all be Doom in April"

A user mockingly lamented:

"They had a date but the script wasn’t even done 😭"

Meanwhile, a user complained:

"I was just told the script was ready lol. Scoopers really don’t know anything do they?"

Some fans think the Avengers lineup is too messy to handle the big villain, while others are straight-up savage with their roasts.

A user warned:

"They have no coherent team of Avengers to fight Doom and no movies coming out to set up a team. They need to reboot!"

One user roasted saying:

"Oh yeah let’s really get excited after the current one is flopping harder than a vaxxer with a heart attack."

Production drama? Naturally. It's the MCU

Initially, rumors indicated that shooting was to commence in March 2025. However, things were reshuffled, and now it officially starts in April, according to Deadline.

The delay is reportedly due to the script not being ready yet.

In the meantime, some days ago, the picture of a supposed underconstruction set of the upcoming movie made headlines but officially, as for now, no official confirmation has been given.

Context and fan expectations

The forthcoming Avengers: Doomsday production will start its filming run in April 2025 during a decisive phase for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The franchise is moving toward Phase 6 after Phase 5, which completes the Multiverse Saga, therefore opening an era of new plotlines and characters.

Recent Marvel productions have generated varying opinions from fans who now wonder where the franchise is headed. The Marvel Studios franchise only released one blockbuster success in 2024 called Deadpool & Wolverine while other major studio releases performed poorly.

Among these other projects, Sony released two films that underperformed commercially which were Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter.

Fans reacted with muted approval for the recent MCU films Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels due to their storytelling and the pace of the narratives.

The sense of disappointment among MCU fans continues after several underperforming films which can be seen in increased skepticism toward upcoming movies including Avengers: Doomsday.

The casting for Avengers: Doomsday

Now, let's discuss the casting: Robert Downey Jr. returns but not as Tony Stark. He's taking on the metal boots of Doctor Doom, as revealed by Jeff Sneider in a recent The Hot Mic episode.

Chris Hemsworth's Thor is also back in play because Marvel Studios would rather cancel a movie than do one without him. Not to mention the rumors about Tom Holland's Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four entering the main MCU timeline.

The plot

Avengers: Doomsday is diving into incursions—universes crashing into each other, timelines merging, and likely a couple of characters encountering alternate versions of themselves. Reports suggest it will continue from the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home and Loki.

Here, Doctor Doom thinks the only solution to save the multiverse is to be in charge of it. Because naturally, he would.

With Kang in the crosshairs, Doom is filling in as the next evil overlord—this time, however, his reasoning may not be as crazy as it appears.

The genius behind it all

Stephen McFeely, co-writer of Avengers: Endgame but going it alone here. His frequent partner-in-sin, Christopher Markus, is taking a backseat this time around.

Marvel dropped previous plans from Jeff Loveness and Michael Waldron, choosing to go all-in on a reset, according to ComicBookMovie.com.

At its heart, Avengers: Doomsday will be the epic conclusion of the Multiverse Saga, closing one chapter and opening the next. With a new team of heroes, the return of beloved favorites, and a villain, the stakes couldn't be greater.

The film is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
