An AMBER Alert was recently issued in Florida after the abduction of six-month-old Zaina Ward was reported. The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office was looking for Zaina, who was allegedly kidnapped during the early hours of October 13. They also revealed the suspect was 22-year-old Mohammed Ibrahim Adam. A few hours after the alert was issued, the sheriff's office confirmed Zaina was located and was safe. Moreover, the suspect has been arrested.
For the unversed, an AMBER Alert is issued by a child abduction alert system. It asks people to help find a child who has been abducted.
What happened to Zaina Ward?
On October 13, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued an AMBER Alert with all details about Zaina Ward and her alleged abductor. The FDLE asked netizens to spread the message as much as possible to find the six-month-old Zaina. She was allegedly last seen in the 5000 block of State Road 13 North in St. Augustine. She was wearing a white onesie with green stemmed pink flowers.
Authorities reported that Mohammed Ibrahim Adam, a resident of St. Augustine, was traveling in a silver 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier with the number plate RXCR47. FDLE mentioned Zaina and her alleged abductor could be in the Jacksonville area. They urged people to inform the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office immediately and not approach the vehicle.
In an Instagram post, FDLE wrote,
"A Florida AMBER Alert has been issued for 6-month-old Zaina Ward, last seen in St. Augustine, Florida. The child may be with Mohammed Adam and they may be traveling in a 2002, silver Chevrolet Cavalier, FL tag number RXCR47. They may be in the Jacksonville, Florida area. If located, DO NOT APPROACH. Contact law enforcement immediately."
The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office added that Zaina "is believed to be in imminent danger."
Later in the day, Zaina Ward was found safe. Also, her abductor has been taken into custody. FDLE informed everyone that the AMBER Alert had been canceled.
"The Florida AMBER Alert issued this morning out of St. Johns County has been canceled. The child is safe. Thank you for sharing."
More details about the case are awaited. It is unclear why Mohammed Ibrahim Adam allegedly abducted Zaina Ward. Moreover, whether there is any relation between the two has not been revealed. This was seemingly the first AMBER Alert in Florida in October 2024. The last one was issued in September after a seven-month-old baby was allegedly abducted.
