Liliana Moreno and her eight-year-old daughter Daniela went missing on May 26, 2016. The mother-daughter duo lived in a condominium at northwest 50th Street and 107th Avenue in Doral, Florida. The police learned they were missing when Liliana's worried sister from Columbia called them. Over eight years after the two went missing, an arrest has been made in the case.

According to CBS, the police found Moreno's condominium locked. Upon entering her house, they found her credit and debit cards, passport, and driver's license. Her car was also parked in the lot.

The Miami-Dade Police began a thorough investigation into the case. They searched land and water with dogs to find Liliana Moreno and Daniela's whereabouts. They even checked for any signs of the two leaving the country.

Only Gustavo Castano Restrepo was identified as a suspect in the case. Restrepo was Daniela's father and Liliana's ex-boyfriend. The police found him in his rental truck while being suicidal in the same area where he alleged that he dropped the two. He had stabbed himself in the neck, and when the police used a taser on him, he lost his right eye.

During the investigation, Restrepo informed the police that he was the one who saw them last. He claimed he dropped them off near a Home Depot off Okeechobee Road near the Turnpike.

Years after Liliana Moreno and Daniela went missing, Restrepo has been taken into custody. He was charged with two counts of kidnapping resulting in death during a hearing on Tuesday. His next hearing is on Friday.

If convicted, the minimum sentence Restrepo will face is life imprisonment, and the maximum is the death penalty. The suspect is currently in the process of hiring an attorney.

Liliana Moreno's brother is still trying to find his sister and her daughter

Eduardo Moreno, Liliana's brother, told CBS News that he is on a mission to find his sister and her daughter. He told the news outlet that he did not expect the arrest to happen. He insists on knowing where his sister and niece are.

"For us, this is something unbelievable and this was not expected to happen. To hear that he is under arrest is a surprise. They were so cheerful and she was always working. She did everything great and then she disappeared. We still don't know where they are or where they are."
"More than an arrest, we want to know what happened to my sister and my niece. So far we don't know. We are waiting for answers and we don't have it," he continued.

More details about Liliana Moreno and Daniela's case are awaited.
