A matter of alleged racial assault came to light when Sophia Rosing, a University of Kentucky student, was caught spilling out racial slurs at a student of color. Rosing, who appeared intoxicated per the video, tried to enter Boyd Hall, where Kylah Spring, a freshman, was working at the front desk. Soon, Rosing was seen allegedly attacking Spring and hurling racial slurs at her.
Rosing called the fellow student the n-word and a "b***h" multiple times. She also asked Spring to do her "chores." In a TikTok video, Springs said,

"The girl starts saying things like ‘Do my chores,’ ‘It’s not my fault that you’re black,’ ‘It’s not my fault that you’re ugly,’ and at this point she’s like singing the n-word."
Additionally, Rosing hit Spring and kicked her in the stomach in the video. As a result, Spring had to call a resident advisor to check on Rosing. The accused was arrested that night, later expelled from the university, and banned from the campus.
The clip in which Sophia Rosing could be allegedly seen attacking Kylah Spring went viral and initiated a movement. Many sided with Spring, who protested to seek justice against the attack.
In a 2022 interview with CBS Mornings, Spring opened up about why she did not retaliate to the attack. She responded,
"I wanted to make sure I acted appropriately so that I could keep my job because the script could have been flipped at any time if I had retaliated.
When the video went viral, the University of Kentucky responded and assured that it would take serious action against the incident.
"Early this morning, a disturbing incident was captured on video in a residence hall. The video is deeply offensive, and we take it very seriously."
What happened to Sophia Rosing?
Sophia Rosing was arrested the night of the incident for assaulting a student and calling her racial slurs. She was charged with first and second offenses of alcohol intoxication in a public place, fourth-degree and second-degree disorderly conduct, and third-degree assault of a police officer, per the arrest report.
On Thursday, she was sentenced to 12 months in custody and 100 hours of community service. Rosing pleaded guilty to four counts of fourth-degree assault and other charges. She has reportedly apologized to Kylah Spring.
Sophia Rosing is still banned from the University of Kentucky's campus and cannot re-enroll.
