Jess Kendall, an 18-year-old high school senior from Elgin High was on his way to watch a Lil Durk concert with his girlfriend when he became a victim of yet another robbery-gone-wrong-incident in Chicago.

Chicago police reported that a teenage boy was shot in a violent incident shortly before 7 p.m. on Sunday in the 100 block of Wolcott Avenue near West Warren Boulevard.

How did Jess Kendall die?

Jess Kendall and his girlfriend were heading to a Lil Durk concert at the United Center when they were confronted by several armed individuals. According to his brother Thomas, the attackers demanded their belongings at gunpoint. Thomas said:

"They're walking on the way to the concert, and four guys come, two on bikes, two on feet. They got masks on,"

A verbal confrontation escalated, and as Jess attempted to disarm one of the assailants, shots were fired, wounding three people. Jess Kendall was tragically pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital, while two other teenagers (possibly bystanders) were injured in the incident.

Since they had been walking to the concert without phones or IDs, Jess's girlfriend requested someone to use their phone to call Thomas and inform him of what had happened. Thomas said:

"Pick it up, and I hear crying. It's his girlfriend. She's like Tommy, Jess has been shot.'"

The town of Elgin is now in deep grief as family, friends, and neighbors mourn the loss of Jess Kendall. Tommy also mentioned that his brother Jess Kendall was loved in the neighborhood as he did odd jobs for the locals. Miguel Koki Rodriguez, one of the neighbors, shared a clip of Jess Kendall mowing his lawn on his Facebook account. He wrote:

"He was a good kid man… he use to walk around the neighborhood w a push mower cutting everyone grass. Saved up his money and bought his set up. Sad to read this …"

Another local news outlet, the Chicago Critter posted pictures of Jess Kendall on their Facebook account.

A statement released by Elgin School District said:

"We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing of one of our Elgin High School students following a tragic incident over the weekend. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the student’s family, friends, and all those affected by this loss," the district said. "In response, our school is providing counseling and support services to help students and staff during this difficult time."

None of the suspects are in custody and the investigation is still on. A GoFundMe account has been set up for Jess Kendall to support his end-of-life expenses. It has managed to raise over USD 2000 so far.
