Courtney Clinton, a 31-year-old woman from Portland, was recently found dead inside her car near the 300 block of North Blandford Drive. In the early morning of November 1, Vancouver police responded to a report of a body inside a car.
Police rushed to the area and found the woman dead with a child inside the car. According to the reports, the child did not "appear to be physically injured."
Courtney Clinton's car was discovered near Highway 14 in Vancouver on North Blandford Drive at around 4:30 am on November 1. The Clark County Medical Examiner reported that Courtney's death was caused by neck injuries during an assault by another person.
However, the examiners have not yet confirmed the manner or place where Courtney was injured; it is still unclear whether the assault took place inside the car or elsewhere.
The Vancouver police have classified Clinton's death as a homicide, and the investigation is underway. Family members identified the child inside the car as Clinton's one-year-old son.
Courtney Clinton's family initiates a GoFundMe campaign
Clinton's sister, Dominique Fuller, started a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses and provide care for Clinton's children. Clinton reportedly had three children: a 10-year-old daughter, an 8-year-old son, and the 1-year-old child who was rescued from the place of homicide.
"This has left us in a difficult position as we strive to honor her memory and give her the dignified service she truly deserves. We are now seeking help to cover the costs associated with transporting her body back home so that we can properly celebrate her life and say our goodbyes. In addition to these immediate needs, we are also focused on caring for her three young children who have been left behind," Fuller wrote in her fundraising page.
She penned a heartwarming paragraph and grieved the loss of her sister. She wrote,
"Courtney was known for her immense love and generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand or offer a listening ear to those around her. Her spirit touched many lives, and it is important for us to ensure that she receives the farewell that reflects the beautiful person she was. We appreciate any support or contributions during this challenging time as we navigate through this loss together."
The family lost Clinton within four months of losing Clinton's younger brother, Donte Mathis, a 25-year-old man, who was reportedly shot and killed near Portland's Madison Suits Motel. According to Fuller, Clinton was the eldest of all the five siblings and they were incredibly close.
In an interview with OregonLive, Fuller described her sister's death as
"horrific and shocking, like watching a crime show."
She hopes she can get justice for her sister's tragic demise.
"It's tragic, it's brutal, it's inhuman and it's just purely evil," she added.
On Thursday, detectives and the Vancouver Police Department stated that the investigation is underway and the child is safe with his family. However, they did not share any details of the possible suspect yet, and no other information has been released.
