On Monday, CNN banned Ryan Girdusky, a pro-Trump voice for his comments on fellow commentator Mehdi Hasan, allegedly implying that he was a terrorist.
When Mehdi Hasan, another panelist, mentioned facing accusations of antisemitism due to his support for Palestinians, Girdusky responded with a remark about a "beeper," which referenced a Hezbollah operation where they carried hundreds of pagers that exploded in Lebanon. Ryan Girdusky said:
“Yeah, well, I hope your beeper doesn’t go off,”
Hasan interpreted this as a suggestion of violence, asking if Girdusky implied he should be killed. Hasan said:
“Did you just say I should die?... Did you just say I should be killed live on CNN?”
Ryan Girdusky tried to clarify and apologize, but the host, Abby Phillip, cut him off, saying his remark was inappropriate. CNN later removed Girdusky from the program and issued a statement barring him from future appearances.
“There is zero room for racism or bigotry at CNN or on our air... We will not allow guests to be demeaned or for the line of civility to be crossed. Ryan Girdusky will not be welcomed back at our network.”
Ryan Girdusky responded to the CNN ban on his X account. He wrote:
"You can stay on CNN if you falsely call every Republican a Nazi and have taken money from Qatar-funded media. Apparently you can't go on CNN if you make a joke. I'm glad America gets to see what CNN stands for."
Who is Ryan Girdusky and what is the 1776 project PAC?
Ryan Girdusky is a conservative activist who started the 1776 Project PAC. This group helps elect conservative candidates to school boards across the U.S. Their goal is to prevent what they see as "political bias" in schools, particularly against topics like critical race theory.
The 1776 Project PAC is an organization focused on electing conservative school board members to change the direction of public education. It was founded in 2021 by Ryan Girdusky after he became concerned about his godson’s school teaching materials he felt were anti-police and too politically biased.
The PAC was created in response to similar concerns from parents about political and ideological content in schools, especially during the COVID lockdowns.
Girdusky believes that public education is failing in areas like reading and math and that schools are promoting race and gender identity over character and individual skills.
The 1776 Project PAC aims to reform school boards nationwide by supporting candidates who focus on core academics, safety, and conservative values.
With a 62% success rate, it has helped elect over 200 conservative candidates, working toward a vision of quality public education that prioritizes merit and a balanced approach to learning.
Ryan Girdusky is also part of American Moment, a group that works on conservative policy ideas and is connected to a project planning for a conservative-led government in the future.
He is friends with Republican Senator J.D. Vance and has appeared on a podcast hosted by Gavin McInnes, who founded the Proud Boys.
