On Monday’s edition of ABC News’s The View, co-host Ana Navarro urged President Joe Biden to pardon his son, Hunter, all while throwing shade at Donald Trump.
"Joe, since they're talking smack about you anyways, you know what? Baby, pardon Hunter. Pardon Hunter, because America just pardoned a criminal", said Ana Navarro.
But, is Ana Navarro a Republican or a Democrat? According to an article by Time Magazine, Ana Navarro is still a registered Republican, but she has distanced herself from the current Republican Party, especially since the 2016 election.
Known for her outspoken criticism of Donald Trump, she even voted for Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016, marking her first non-Republican vote. Navarro has openly supported Democratic figures, like Kamala Harris, and even co-hosted part of the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
While technically Republican by registration, her values and endorsements align more with Democratic positions, particularly in recent years.
In an old interview with American University's Sociology professor Jane Hall, Ana Navarro shared her thoughts on the state of the Republican Party and her reasons for staying despite its shifts. Navarro expressed a desire for the party to return to its 'traditional roots' but acknowledged that she wasn't feeling optimistic about this.
She explained that she felt strongly against the idea of leaving the party, particularly under the influence of Donald Trump, whom she didn’t view as a true Republican due to his past affiliations as a Democrat and an independent. Navarro said that she valued a multi-party system, believing that healthy political diversity was essential to represent America’s varied perspectives.
What else did Ana Navarro say in the recent interview?
Apart from advising Joe Biden to grant pardon to his son, Ana Navarro also spoke on likely mass deportations under the future Trump administration and reacted to Tom Homan being named border czar. She noted that if people thought that Trump's statements about mass deportations were not serious, people repeatedly underplayed his seriousness, which is now apparent with the appointment of Tom Homan as border czar.
"A lot of people thought that when he (Trump) talked about mass deportations, he wasn't being serious. I don't know how many times he had to say it for people to realize he was being serious... The appointment of Tom Homan today as border czar, and he will be in charge of a mass deportation program, the largest the country has ever seen they say... shows the seriousness" said Ana Navarro.
While speaking directly to the Latino communities, Ana Navarro was critical of the ones who voted for Trump and reiterated the fact that if Trump did indeed end up conducting mass deportations, it would not only be for criminals, but would also affect the friends, families, and colleagues of Latino communities.
Ana Navarro is a Nicaraguan-American political commentator, strategist, and television personality. She is best known for her work as a Republican strategist, though she is often seen offering critical commentary on the Republican Party, especially about Donald Trump.
Navarro has been a frequent contributor on political talk shows, including The View, where she serves as a guest co-host, providing analysis on current events, political issues, and social matters.
