A tragic accident took place on Saturday on the Gandy Bridge in Florida. The crash happened between a Hyundai Tucson and a Honda CBR1000RR motorcycle. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the motorcyclist was killed in the crash as he was ejected from the bike and fell off the bridge into Tampa Bay.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred at 10:35 p.m. on October 19. The Hyundai Tucson, driven by a 41-year-old man from Orlando, was traveling westbound on the Gandy Bridge. At the same time, a 23-year-old man from Pinellas Park was riding a Honda CBR1000RR motorcycle on the bridge. While the motorcycle's speed was allegedly high, it collided with the SUV near the Pinellas County Line.
The impact of the collision led to the motorcycle striking the outside barrier wall of the bridge and bursting into flames. Moreover, the motorcyclist was allegedly thrown off the vehicle into Tampa Bay. When the Tampa police divers recovered the rider, he was pronounced dead. On the other hand, the driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries and was given immediate medical assistance.
Sharing a picture of the accident, FHP wrote,
"October 19, 2024 @ 10:35 PM. Vehicle 2, a Hyundai Tucson, driven by a 41-year-old Orlando man, was traveling westbound on the Gandy Bridge. Vehicle 1, a Honda CBR1000RR motorcycle, operated by a 23-year-old Pinellas Park man, was traveling westbound on the Gandy Bridge at a high rate of speed. The motorcyclist overtook and collided with the rear of the SUV near the Pinellas County Line. Upon impact, the SUV came to rest in the travel lanes while the motorcycle struck the outside barrier wall and burst into flames while the driver was thrown into Tampa Bay. The rider was later recovered deceased by Tampa Police divers. Driver 2 suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital."
