In a Saturday social media post, President-elect Donald Trump revealed that he will not be extending invitations to two former members of his administration to return to the White House.

The people in question are Nikki Haley, the former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, and Mike Pompeo, who previously served as Secretary of State and CIA Director. Both Republicans had been widely regarded as potential contenders for critical positions in Trump's upcoming Cabinet.

In a post on TruthSocial, Trump wrote:

"I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley, or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to join the Trump Administration, which is currently in formation. I very much enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously, and would like to thank them for their service to our Country. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

Users across X and other social media platforms are reacting to this news, most expressing relief at the decision.

Using clapping hands emoji, one user wrote:

"BREAKING: Trump announces Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo will NOT be invited to join the Trump administration. This is HUGE! 👏👏"

Another one noted that Trump's decision shouldn't come as a surprise to Nikki Haley. They wrote:

"I honestly don’t think they expected to be included. Nikki Haley did the right thing by endorsing Trump. But it’s time for her to move on"

Another user made an inference that Trump's administration was cognizant of people's reactions by saying:

"Trump's announcement of not inviting Pompeo to join his admin is further supporting evidence that our leaders know what is trending on X. Strenuous objection to Pompeo holding public office trended hugely on X. X is our Town Square now. Our posts are seen or heard."

Another one added to the same rhetoric by saying:

"Don't forget this also is applying to Nikki Haley as she used her platform in the Iowa campaigning to host the media. This included@TYT who proceeded to smear the Precinct Caucusing site as illegitimate for its conduct. Interviewing them, one voter even came open as a dem voting for Nikki at this same hotel site as that where her HQ was being held."

Why are people rejoicing Nikki Haley's exclusion from Trump's upcoming administration?

During her tenure as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley took strong, often hawkish stances on foreign policy. Her approach, particularly on issues like Israel and Iran, was seen as aggressive or uncompromising.

Critics claim that Nikki Haley has displayed opportunism throughout her political career, especially in her attempts to distance herself from Trump while accepting his support. Haley initially was an outspoken Trump supporter, especially throughout his 2016 campaign. However, she started disassociating herself from Trump's contentious acts over time.

For instance, in 2018, despite her prior allegiance, she openly expressed her disapproval of Trump's decision to remove American forces from Syria.

After leaving the Trump administration, Haley occasionally offered criticisms that many interpreted as veiled shots at Trump’s leadership. In 2021, she stated that Trump had 'lost his way' after the January 6th Capitol attack, which many viewed as a significant departure from her previously unwavering support. This led some to question her consistency. In the 2024 elections, Nikki Haley once again proved her inconsistency by endorsing Trump.
