Will General Hospital's Steven Webber break up a popular Port Charles pair?

It's a big week for General Hospital's Heather Webber (Alley Mills) for more than one reason. Not only is her jailbird fate decided, but her beloved oldest son, Steven Lars, is returning to Port Charles after his own stint in the slammer.

On October 24, 2024, Scott Reeves will reprise the GH role he played from 2009 to 2013 when Steven Lars Webber surprises his half-sister, Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). Liz had previously told Terry (Cassandra James) that Steven had recently been released from prison but was starting life anew in Sedona, AZ. Steven was arrested in 2013 for killing a comatose patient to give his heart to a teenage transplant patient.

Does his return to Port Charles have anything to do with his mother's latest fate, or does he land a job at General Hospital despite no longer having a medical license? Either way, according to this week's GH spoilers, Steven's return is being billed as a happy surprise for Elizabeth, but will it be a happy surprise for others?

What does Steven's return mean for Ned and Olivia?

For the last year, Ned (Wally Kurth) and Olivia's (Lisa LoCicero) marriage has been going smoothly. After Ned finally got his memory back and put his Eddie Maine persona to rest, Olivia was overjoyed to have her husband back. Ned and Olivia even co-exist happily with Ned's ex-wife, Lois (Rena Sofer). It's one big dysfunctional family in the Quartermaine mansion, but at least Ned's wife and ex-wife are best friends.

However, Steven's return could put an end to all that. Before Steven was arrested and sentenced to prison, he and Olivia nearly wed. In fact, they were trying to marry when the law caught up with Steven. Despite his arrest, Olivia was still willing to marry Steven, but he didn't want her tied to him if they couldn't be together.

Olivia managed to go on and find happiness with Ned. As with any soap couple, there have been ups and downs through the years. Ned's jealousy of Olivia's friendship with Robert led him to have a drunken one-night stand with Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn). When Olivia learned the truth, she nearly divorced Ned but eventually forgave him. She also fought to get her husband back when he hit his head and believed he was his former rock star alter-ego, Eddie.

Surviving cheating and amnesia is par for the course for a strong soap pair, but can they survive the appearance of a former love whom Olivia nearly married? If Steven had never been arrested, he and Olivia might still be married today.

Will Olivia be drawn to her ex, putting her in the middle of a love triangle with Ned and Steven, or are Steven and Olivia old news? Ned and Olivia need something to shake up their humdrum happy lives, and Steven's return to Port Charles might be the thing they need to bring the drama.
