Lucas Jones (prominently played as an adult by Ryan Carnes and Van Hansis) has been causing drama in Port Charles since his birth. Desperate for a child, Bobbie Spencer (Jacklyn Zeman) bought a baby boy on the black market, not realizing he belonged to Cheryl Stansbury (Jennifer Anglin), who had been told her baby had died. When Bobbie learned she had "adopted" the son of Cheryl and the allegedly late Julian Jerome, she was forced to give the child back.

After Cheryl was killed, her sister, Tiffany Hill (Sharon Wyatt), and Tiffany's husband, Sean Donely (John Reilly), took Lucas in, but he didn't stay with them for long. In her will, Cheryl had asked for Bobbie and her husband, Tony Jones (Brad Maule), to take custody of Lucas. After a court battle, Bobbie and Tony became Lucas' official adoptive parents in 1993.

Sam's complicated parental history

Until Sam was an adult in her 20s living in Port Charles, she believed she was the daughter of Cody and Evelyn McCall and the sister of Danny McCall. However, she eventually learned that Alexis Davis was her mother. Alexis had become pregnant while in boarding school after a one-night stand with a boy from a neighboring school. Her father, Mikkos Cassadine, forced Alexis to give her baby up for adoption.

Sam and Alexis spent years forging a solid mother-daughter relationship, but Sam still had no idea who her biological father was. In 2013, when Sam's son Danny needed a bone marrow transplant, she set out on a search for her bio dad, but he turned out to be right there in Port Charles, going by the name Derek Wells. Alexis eventually realized that Derek was the boy who got her pregnant, but his real name was Julian Jerome. It seemed Julian had never died all those years ago, as most of Port Charles believed.

Once Julian shed his Derek Wells persona, he settled into Port Charles life and got to know the two biological children he never knew he had. Lucas and Sam may have been adults, but they quickly formed a sibling bond. Sam was even her mom's maid of honor when Alexis married Julian in 2016.

Julian even attempted to become a legitimate businessman. As the new owner of Charlie's Pub, he donned flannel shirts, but he couldn't help but break the law every now and again until his 2020 death. However, Sam and Lucas have remained close. There was no one else whom Sam wanted to perform her surgery except for her beloved brother. Could that be the most fateful decision Sam has ever made?
