When General Hospital's Nicholas Alexander Chavez exited his role as Spencer Cassadine earlier this year, fans knew they would soon see him again on Netflix in Ryan Murphy's Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. With Monsters set to drop on September 19, Netflix has released the extended trailer for the series.

Nicholas Alexander Chavez takes on role of real-life killer

Chavez plays Lyle Menendez, who along with brother, Erik, was convicted in 1996 of killing their parents, Jose and Kitty. The 1989 murders and their aftermath are explored in Murphy's new series. While Netflix has offered some brief teasers over the last month, the newly released, nearly three-minute long trailer delves deeper into what the audience will see when they tune in.

The trailer begins with Lyle and Erik (played by Cooper Koch) entering their parents' Beverly Hills home with shotguns as a voice tells the brothers, "I will need you to walk me through what happened."

Fans can then see the brothers on a couch, with a therapist telling them that the process involves Lyle and Erik reconnecting and growing closer. Chavez as Lyle then says, "Erik and I killed our parents together, so I'd say that makes us pretty close."

The trailer also highlights moments from the Menendez brothers' trial, Lyle and Erik living the high life before they were arrested, and their early lives at the hands of an allegedly abusive father. Then, fans can see the stunning moment when they committed their infamous crime.

Chavez's career takes off after General Hospital

Chavez won a Daytime Emmy for playing Spencer in 2022 and was nominated in 2023. In a tweet this May, he confirmed he had left GH for the foreseeable future, after he had not been seen on-screen since January. That's when Esme caught up with Spencer and Trina in France. She promptly drugged Spencer, leading both characters to fall off a boat into the Seine. Esme and Spencer were later presumed dead.

With his soap life behind him for now, Chavez can be seen in another Murphy production this fall when Grotesquerie premieres on FX on September 25. Episodes will stream on Hulu the next day. Chavez plays Father Charlie in the series. Whether he returns to the world of daytime soaps one day remains to be seen. For now, fans can enjoy the actor in Murphy's two latest dramatic series.
