Longtime General Hospital fans were thrilled when Réal Andrews returned to the role of Marcus Taggert after a 17-year-absence. Sadly, it's been more than a year since Taggert has been on-screen, with very little explanation.
Where is Marcus Taggert?
The last time we saw the character known as Taggert, he had just learned he was not Trina's (Tabyana Ali) biological father. Instead, Trina was a product of an affair his ex-wife, Portia (Brook Kerr), had with Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner). After DNA tests proved Trina's paternity, Trina vowed that Taggert would always be her dad.
We expected to see Taggert deal with the fallout of the reveal and form a new kind of relationship with the young woman he raised, but instead, Taggert disappeared with no explanation at all. Since then, fans have been wondering what happened to Taggert, whether he was still in Port Charles, and if we would ever see him again. Now, Andrews has some answers.

It's curtains for General Hospital's Réal Andrews
Andrews, whose original run as Taggert lasted from 1996 to 2003, shared a video on Instagram, talking about his GH past and looking toward his future.
"I’ve been getting a lot of questions for over a year now," Andrews said. "So, my chapter with General Hospital is over. The writing has been on the wall for a long time…and I wanted to come here because you guys have been phenomenal, the best, amazing supporters.”
Andrews thanked all the GH behind-the-scenes people he worked with through the years, including the casting director who gave him his big soap break.
"It’s just been an incredible journey, you know," Andrews continued. "I do want to give a shout-out to [Casting Director] Mark Teschner [who] gave me the first opportunity, [former Head Writer] Bob Guza, [former Executive Producer] Wendy Riche, [Executive Producer] Frank [Valentini]. All the champions there.”
Andrews has had other soap roles through the years, including from 2016 to 2017 as Days of our Lives' Hal Michaels, who ended up nearly killing Kayla Johnson (Mary Beth Evans). However, he seems to be focused on a career outside daytime and dropped some hints about a new big project in the works.
"It’s the best, biggest project of my life, ever," Andrews said. "The most important one. And everything comes together, and happens for a reason, right? Everything I’ve done in my whole life was for this role right here."
When Andrews offers more details about this project, Soap Central will be sure to bring them to you.
