Since 1993, Maurice Benard has made his home on General Hospital as the mobster with a heart of gold, Sonny Corinthos. Outside of that, he came to grips with his bipolar disorder and began a campaign to raise mental health awareness, for which he’s been lauded for his efforts. His YouTube series, State of Mind, has opened up conversations about struggles, resilience, and the importance of self-care. He often infuses honesty in his discussions, inspiring fans everywhere. His latest endeavor raised his commitment to mental health to a whole new level when he hosted an important event.
A Night to Remember
Benard shared the news that he was hosting the 47th Annual Promise2Live Global Livestream. The event’s official Instagram page explained: “Make the Promise2Live. Promise to reach out to friends, family, 988, or another resource if depressed or in danger of self-harm. Share with others.” A very important topic indeed, which Benard was excited to host. On Instagram, he wrote, “It was a very special evening for an incredible cause @promise2liveofficial. My first time hosting.” He then added, “Got to meet some great people, robriggle @allisonholker and everyone involved in putting it together!!! Always remember our lives are so important. Never take that for granted.” Attached was a video capturing his time at the event, where the General Hospital actor connected with fellow advocates, entertainers, and supporters of the cause.
The comments quickly poured in. @ladodgersfanalltheway2025 praised, “State of Mind & your video is awesome.” @pawprints805 added heartfelt encouragement, saying, “You’re an amazing soul, Maurice. Keep doing what you’re doing.” Others focused on his impact, with @tmi_whale_3 noting, “Congrats, Maurice. We all are very proud and you truly deserve this,” while the General Hospital blog offered an especially touching response: “Be so proud of YOU! You have no idea how much of what you project out to the world I take with me and use every day. You inspire me and others with your voice! Thank you!”
More Than Just a Role

Many fans added their own notes of admiration. @silvaaz_glamourfoodie wrote, “You are an amazing human, sir!” while @sandrabramati reflected, “Thank you for your State of Mind program. You’re an amazing and caring person for helping others in their struggles for a better life and future. Blessings to you always!” And @dt53405 shared a deeply personal tribute: “Maurice, you're an amazing actor and I love your state of mind just knowing we're not alone and you always give good advice… You always made my day, thank you for being my light in some dark days.”
While many fans continue to celebrate Benard as Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital, his work off-screen has proven equally powerful. The Promise2Live event underscored his ability to connect with people on issues far bigger than Port Charles drama. By blending his voice as an actor, advocate, and host, Benard turned a night of entertainment into a milestone moment for awareness — one that fans clearly won’t soon forget.
