General Hospital's Laura Wright celebrates a major milestone

On General Hospital, Carly might want to celebrate her daughter making it home in one piece after a WSB mission (if she only knew Josslyn was a WSB agent), but in real life, Laura Wright definitely has a reason to celebrate. Today is her birthday.

Wright was born on September 11, 1970, in Washington, DC, but raised in a nearby Maryland suburb. While she acted in high school productions, she wasn't planning on making a career of it and took a job working at a gas station owned by her father. She also decided to enroll in an acting class, and it was her teacher who helped Wright land her big break when she sent a video of Wright to ABC producers.

Soon, the actress had landed the role of Ally Rescott on Loving and took the character from Corinth to NYC when Loving morphed into The City a few years later.

A big soap fan, Wright recalled how star-struck she was at her Loving audition, including what it was like to meet Susan Lucci, as All My Children taped in the same building as Loving.

"So I go with my little disposable camera, because I'm like, 'I watch this show. I'm not going to get this job, but I'm going to take pictures of everybody,'" Wright told CBS8 in San Diego. "I chased Susan Lucci down the hallway, and she was like, 'Who's the crazy fan in the building?'"

After The City was canceled, Wright moved to CBS and Guiding Light, where she played Cassie Layne from 1997 to 2005. She left GL specifically to take over the role of General Hospital's Carly, and the rest is soap opera history. Along the way, Wright met and married John Wright and had two children, Lauren and John. The couple divorced in 2016.

In 2025, Wright is living her best life as Carly Spencer, while enjoying a romance with Wes Ramsey since 2017. Ramsey famously played General Hospital's Peter August.

Carly thinks her life is finally on track as she dates Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna) and runs her businesses. Little does she know that Jack has recruited her daughter to be a WSB agent and has been keeping that secret under wraps for months. We can't wait to see Hurricane Carly blow through when she learns the truth.
