General Hospital: Will Sonny's enemies use his health condition to their advantage?

In the latest General Hospital news, Sonny (Maurice Benard) has a heart arrhythmia and is on medication with strict orders to stay away from stress; also, a surgery is already scheduled. Until recently, Sonny had been keeping the critical news from his family, even when Kristina (Kate Mansi) caught Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) at Sonny’s home after a check-up. Sonny came clean to Kristina but is still keeping the condition under wraps because of his status as a kingpin and his not wanting to admit his vulnerability to the world — a world filled with his enemies.

General Hospital’s Ava taunts Sonny

Ava (Maura West), on her campaign for securing money while she struggles after losing her money, stopped at Sonny’s to bargain with him. During the bargaining, Sonny and Ava get into a heated argument over custody of Avery, and Sonny’s heart couldn’t take the stress. Sonny collapsed and reached for his pills but dropped them mere inches from himself. He struggled to reach them while Ava taunted him, not even remotely trying to help.

As Ava spoke vilely to Sonny and let him wriggle, Kristina happened to come home and immediately gave Sonny his pills, telling Ava to leave after she haphazardly offered to (finally) call 911. Kristina also wanted to call an ambulance, but Sonny instead asked Kristina to call Isaiah. As the list of people who know about his condition grows, does this spell ruin for Sonny's family? For his empire? As kingpin, Sonny is seen as a capable, untouchable person who can take down anyone, anytime, or have his people do it. A heart condition is no joke, and one wrong move or not having his medication could mean the end of the line for him.

Ava's treacherous wheels start turning

Ava had a meeting with Ric (Rick Hearst) and let him know that Sonny wasn’t doing well, though she left out the part where she almost let him die. While Ava seemed jovial about the prospect of Sonny dying so that she could get her hands on Avery’s inheritance, Ric actually looked concerned for his brother. So, that’s possibly one less enemy for Sonny to worry about. But, does Ava plan on milking Sonny’s condition for her own gain? And, will Kristina let her? Kristina has been doing some plotting of her own to get rid of Ava. To what lengths will Ava go to secure money for herself amidst her financial crisis? Furthermore, is Ava all that Sonny has to worry about?

Sonny under fire

Although Laura (Genie Francis) remarked to Sonny that he was incredibly strong, having survived being shot in the chest, Sonny stated that he believed his strength was fading, but that he didn’t want that fact to be blasted throughout Port Charles. However, Ava seems intent on doing just that. Ava is desperate for money and will seemingly do anything to get it. The list of people who would prefer that Sonny not be breathing stretches farther than Ava, however. On any given day, a number of people could want Sonny dead or, at least, out of the picture, powerless – Ava, Sidwell, Valentin, Brennan, Drew, Boyle, Jordan, just to name a few. So, what’s next for Sonny? Can he keep his stress down for himself as well as his family? Will past and present enemies alike come together to take down the ultimate kingpin of Port Charles? Could this be the end for a beloved character for over 30 years? Or, will the surgery go well and the longtime mobster be back to himself and making moves within Port Charles?
