Former General Hospital star Chad Duell opened up about his current life and career, and teased some upcoming projects in a new interview this week.
Duell, who played Michael Corinthos from 2010 to early 2025, covered a wide range of topics in a TV broadcast of The Able Show. The show is part of a multimedia organization where individuals with disabilities assume the majority of the production roles. Duell appeared on a broadcast with four hosts in front of a live audience, which aired on the website and on social media.
Duell unveiled a new name of sorts on the show. He now spells his last name as Duëll on his IMDb page, with an umlaut accent mark above the “E.” He didn’t discuss that in the interview, but the hosts emphasized that his name is now pronounced Du-ELL.
Chad Duell was Michael on General Hospital for 15 years

Duëll said he left General Hospital in 2024, partially because of the death of his father, but also to be able to do more and different things in his acting career. He said he needed a “reset.” He said he has two upcoming films that are in pre-production, and that one of them will begin filming in the next few weeks.
The former General Hospital star didn’t give any details about who he would be working with, but said one of the films has his character going to prison for helping his father die in an assisted suicide, which is illegal in some states.
Duëll said another film is an adventure plot with two friends going out on a hike. One breaks his leg, and the other has to carry him for a long distance.
Duëll starred in another film Soldiers of Heaven, a movie set in World War II that has not been released. Earlier in 2025, he also took part in a stage play.
When asked what he missed most about General Hospital, Duëll focused on people and not storylines.
“It’s incredible that it’s lasted that long,” he said. “I give them props for how they’ve maintained that quality for so long… My favorite memories in general are the people. Those relationships. I grew up in a lot of ways there. I was slower to mature in a lot of ways, and I really grew up there. That’s the most fond memories I have (are) the growth I’ve had and the relationships I had.”
He spoke a lot about the pressure he felt when taking over the role of Michael from Drew Garrett on General Hospital in 2010, and the anxiety he had when trying to prove he belonged on the show.
He went into detail on his first major storyline on General Hospital, when Michael went to prison for killing Claudia Zacchara (Sarah Joy Brown) and was raped there by an inmate named Carter (Josh Wingate). The interviewers asked him about this topic and how he prepared to play that story, and Duell said it can be really difficult for anyone to admit when something like that happens to them.
“That was very hard for me,” Duëll said. “You had to put yourself there. You do as much as you possibly can to embody it. I heard from people how much it affected them and helped them to see somebody else going through it.”
One of the hosts said that many people don’t talk about being abused until they’re in their 50s.
“That’s what you want as an actor, to express yourself and grow,” he said. “I know many people in general are affected by this. A lot of men are ashamed a lot of times to talk about it because of masculinity. That’s a huge issue. That’s what (Michael) went through as well. He didn’t want to tell anybody. You start to channel it into other things, and not healthy things. You need to talk about it eventually, that’s what that storyline was. To go through that, break through and tell people, and get healing.”
The hosts also asked him about working with Selena Gomez on The Wizards of Waverly Place, which Duell did in his first major role before Gomez became a big megastar.
Duëll also told the interviewers he played football through high school and that his father wanted him to be a football player growing up, but supported him in his acting career.
