Josh Kelly says "some tough love" will be needed to save Sasha

Josh Kelly reveals the difficult road ahead for Cody and Sasha as they flee Ferncliff

Things are heating up for Josh Kelly on General Hospital as his alter ego Cody Bell embarks on a mission to save Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson) from her evil doctor and diabolical mother-in-law. Recently, Kelly talked to Soap Opera Digest about his character's determination to rescue Sasha from those who mean her harm.

The stakes couldn't be higher for Sasha. Cody realized that Dr. Montague (Darin Toonder) and Gladys Corbin (Bonnie Burroughs) were working together to keep Sasha firmly under Gladys' greedy grip. "Once he realizes that the doctor knows Gladys, he pieces it all together while he's trying to save Sasha," Kelly said. "It all kinda clicks."

The road to freedom won't be easy. Sasha's nefarious doctor had been using his time at Ferncliff to exploit Sasha's past history of addiction by injecting her with large doses of opioids, so she was barely conscious when Cody found her. "She's just completely out of it and incapacitated and delusional. A lot like she was when she was hallucinating that Cody was Cyrus (Jeff Kober), but she has a moment of clarity and realizes that Cody is there to help her, and she agrees that she wants to leave," Kelly explained.

Thanks to Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco), Cody was able to whisk Sasha to a waiting car, and the two raced off with only seconds to spare. Cody and Sasha make their way to a cabin in the woods, and there, Sasha will begin the arduous process of detoxing from the illicit drugs that Montague gave her. "She's frenetic and exhausted and still having hallucinations. For Cody, it's just really sad. But then he has to use some tough love to try to get through to her because she kind of starts to not want to fight anymore. It requires Cody to cut pretty deep with some tough love," Kelly reveals.

According to Kelly, Cody will also recognize that their troubles are far from behind them. Not only do Montague and Gladys continue to pose a threat, but the escape from Ferncliff puts both Cody and Sasha on the radar of the police. "The cabin is almost like a temporary safety zone," Kelly says. "It's not permanent and it's not going to be safe forever, but in the meantime, being there is a good way to regroup, reorganize, and plan the next mission."

Bonnie Burroughs explains that Gladys will be in for a shock when she heads to Ferncliff and discovers that Sasha is gone. "She is terrified upon learning that Cody sprung Sasha from Ferncliff, both because Cody has Gladys in his sights and because Gladys really doesn't trust his motives around Sasha. As much as Gladys has deceived and derailed Sasha, she does genuinely care about her and does not trust a glorified horse poop shoveler around her beautiful rich daughter-in-law!" Burroughs shared.

Kelly says Cody "doesn't care at all" if his actions land him in jail. "He's been in trouble his whole life and this is totally worth it," Kelly explained. "He's like, 'Who cares if I go to jail?' This is bigger than me."
