Soap veteran Kim Zimmer, best known as Guiding Light's Reva, will play the mother of a female soldier having a difficult time reentering civilian society in the play Soldier's Heart.
Kim Zimmer (ex-Reva Shayne, GL; ex-Echo DiSavoy, One Life to Live) has a leading role in the new play Soldier's Heart. The play will run at Kean University in Union, New Jersey, from July 10 through July 27, 2014.
The production tells the tale of Casey (played by Mairin Lee), an American soldier who leaves her son behind to defend her country. After someone she trusts assaults her, Casey returns home to face her greatest test.
Zimmer will play Margie, Casey's mother who cared for Casey's son while Casey served in Iraq. When Casey returns home, Margie struggles to understand what her daughter is going through.

"Soldier's Heart is a powerful and moving exploration of a female Marine's difficult reentry into civilian society," states John Wooten, director of the production. "The task of seeking assistance from a disinterested V.A. and an insulated chain of command makes her journey particularly challenging."
Tammy Ryan wrote the play. Her award-winning work has been commissioned, developed, and performed across the United States and internationally. In 2010, Zimmer starred in another play by Ryan, Lost Boy Found in Whole Foods.
Tickets for Soldier's Heart are available at http://www.kean.edu/premierestages/ or by calling 908-737-SHOW. The play will run July 10 through 27 with performances Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8 PM and Saturday and Sunday at 3PM, excepting the Sunday, July 13, performance, which will take place at 6PM. Performances will be in the Zella Fry Theatre in Vaughn Eames Hall at Kean University in Union, NJ.
