Rebecca Herbst no longer out at GH?

It would appear that ABC has had a change of heart about letting go of long-time General Hospital vet Rebecca Herbst. Though the show isn't talking just yet, a new report, citing fan outrage, states that the actress will not be leaving after all.

If the ouster of 13-year veteran Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth Webber) from General Hospital seemed sudden -- brace yourself. Though unconfirmed by the network at this time, a published report hints that Herbst has now been "un-fired."

According to an early morning Twitter post by ABC Soaps In Depth earlier today, set sources are reporting that Herbst will be continuing at General Hospital.

"As soon as we get more information, including a confirmation from the soap, we'll let you know," the magazine posted in breaking the news.

Meanwhile, one of Herbst's co-star, Laura Wright (Carly Jacks) added to the speculation with her own post on Twitter.

"I thinks its true Becky is STAYING!" Wright wrote.

Soaps In Depth's executive editor, Richard M. Simms, spoke to the web site TheTVAddict.com about the fan uproar surrounding Herbst's dismissal last month, and hinted that the network might have reconsidered getting rid of Herbst because the decision ended up being so unpopular.

"A lot of times, fans react and for a few days, it's all anyone can talk about. But Becky Herbst fans really refused to let this drop," Simms explained. "Things may finally have reached a breaking point with a lot of fans, who just couldn't accept another legacy character being canned."

In January -- exactly one month ago today -- General Hospital announced that Herbst, who'd joined the show in August 1997, would be making a storyline-dictated exit. Herbst's co-stars immediately took to the Internet to voice their opinions on Herbst's firing, opinions that ranged from "devastated" to "heartbroken."
