We already know that Wonder Woman will be one of the DCU's major players along with Superman and Batman. This is not surprising because even in the comics, she is right there with the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight as a part of the DC Trinity. As of now, we know that there are two DCU projects related to this character that are under development.

The first being Paradise Lost, a prequel series set before Diana's birth, and the second being a solo movie headlined by Diana Prince. Both of these projects remain in the scripting stage. Thus, we have to wait for a while before we get to see Princess Diana of Themyscira on screen in Peter Safran and James Gunn's DCU.

However, when this version of the character makes her debut, it will be her second iteration on the screen. Despite the critical and popular failure of 2020's Wonder Woman 1984, the first movie released in 2017, also directed by Patty Jenkins, remains beloved to this day. This is why Jenkins was asked if she would direct the character's DCU movie.

Patty Jenkins answers whether she'll direct the DCU Wonder Woman movie:

A fan site called M.C.U.N. caught up with Jenkins at the AFI Fest carpet. Jenkins was there to promote an indie project called "Junkie", which she is producing. However, the fan site asked Patty Jenkins if she would direct the DCU movie featuring Diana. Expressing her love for the character, Jenkins said:

“You know what, you never say never because I love Wonder Woman. But, at the moment, I am so excited with what I am doing, and it’s always good to do something new. I loved making superhero movies…you never know, but I am having a good time.”

Given the answer, we can ascertain that she is not interested in returning to the Princess of Themyscira and would rather watch the project as a fan.

Despite the lack of movement, fan-casting for the Amazonian Princess's projects continues:

James Gunn has not confirmed that the script for Diana Prince's solo movie, written by Ana Nogueira, is completed. Therefore, DC Studios will not officially cast an actress as Diana until the script is complete. But that has not stopped fans from coming up with their own choices to play Diana, the frontrunner being Alexandra Daddario.

Daddario was asked by ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns if she saw fan art featuring her as Diana Prince or Catwoman. The True Detective Season 1 actress answered:

"I have to be honest, I haven't seen any of that [fan art]. I'm flattered to hear that it's happening, but I haven't seen it."

Moreover, when asked if she would be interested in joining the DCU, Daddario responded positively, saying:

"But of course, working with James Gunn would be amazing in any capacity, but I wasn't aware that that was going on."

What do we know about the DCU version of Diana Prince?

Both Paradise Lost and the solo movie are going to highlight Diana Prince's role in the overall DC Universe. We already know that she is one of this cinematic universe's foundational pillars, as WBD CEO David Zaslav confirmed in an earnings call this year:

“It’s important for us to be able to sell our content to third parties [but] as we look at our titles, there are many that are really just for Warner Bros. When you look at the major characters with — that James Gunn and Peter Safran are developing with their 10-year plan around DC, that is to build asset value for us globally everywhere in the world, Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Supergirl. So those are — we look at those as big asset builders and big differentiators.”

James Gunn addressed this quote in a June Entertainment Weekly interview:

"I think that he got that from something I said. I wouldn't say only those four characters, but I would say that those four characters are incredibly important to us. Right now, I feel great about where two of those characters are, and then we're dealing with the other two."

In the same interview, Gunn also confirmed that writers in DC Studios were working on Diana Prince's solo feature film:

"We're working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman's being written right now."
