Actor Nigel Adams was taken into custody on June 4 while filming Rivals at Berkeley Castle in Gloucestershire after allegedly assaulting a woman, reportedly his long-term partner Louise Payne, in a coastal town on May 31. He was arrested by Avon and Somerset Police.

The representative of the production house of Rivals, Happy Prince, said in a statement reported by BBC:

"On 4 June, the police visited the set regarding an unrelated matter involving a supporting artist."

Happy Prince said they fully coordinated with the police and have not been given any more details about the case, as the arrest has nothing to do with the Rivals series.

After his arrest, he was reportedly released on bail and appeared at Bristol Crown Court for his hearing, which took place on July 7. According to multiple reports, the charges against Nigel Adams involving the assault of his partner, to whom he has reportedly been engaged for over seven years, were dropped.

Nigel Adams' fiancée, Louise Payne, takes back her complaint against him

At the court hearing at Bristol Crown Court on July 7, Louise Payne, the fiancée of the supporting actor in the Rivals, Nigel Adams, took back the case by not proceeding with it further.

The statement was given by prosecutor Christine Hart in the court:

"She (Louise Payne) has made it clear she didn’t wish to proceed with the case. I have spoken to her at length, as has the officer in charge. Taking into account the evidence already in the case and that statement, the only option I have is to offer no evidence on the outstanding count."

After the statement was released from her side, Judge William Hart, who was in charge of the case, declared Adams not guilty of the charges by telling him:

"I will return a not guilty verdict. A not guilty verdict, you are free to leave, thank you."

While leaving the court, Nigel Adams and Payne were seen in a good mood, smiling. In a press interaction with PA News, the actor said:

"They turned up on set and nicked me like I was a wanted man on the run. I'm grateful everything has been sorted. We just want to get on with our lives."

Talking about the Rivals, he said:

"Now I can get back with my agent and get back on Rivals, hopefully. I still have the costume."

Nigel Adams' fiancée, Louise Payne, explained she never wanted to press charges in the first place and is happy that everything is resolved now.
