Neil Young is removing his music from Amazon. The singer is removing his music from the platform over Jeff Bezos's support of Donald Trump and his government in the US. The singer appealed to his fans in his blog, Neil Young Archives, to boycott Amazon, Meta, and other large corporations and switch to local stores:
"FORGET AMAZON AND WHOLE FOODS. FORGET FACEBOOK. BUY LOCAL. BUY DIRECT. BEZOS SUPPORTS THIS GOVERNMENT. IT DOES NOT SUPPORT YOU OR ME. The Time is here. FORGET AMAZON. Soon my music will not be there. It is easy to buy local. Support your community."
The singer continued:
"Go to the local store. Don't go back to the big corporations who have sold out America. We all have to give up something to save America from the Corporate Control Age it is entering. They need you to buy from them. Don't. They shut down our government. Your income. Your Safety. Your family's health security."
The singer added:
"Take America Back together, stop buying from the big corporations. support local business. Do the right thing. Show who you are."
Neil Young previously took his music off of Spotify in 2022, after Joe Rogan's podcast (a Spotify exclusive at the time) spread misinformation regarding COVID-19 vaccines. The singer reinstated his music on Spotify after both Apple and Amazon also picked up Rogan's podcast in 2024.
More recently, the singer has removed his Facebook and Instagram accounts, as he asks his fans in the above message to do as well. The singer's representatives stated in a Facebook post:
"At Neil Young's request, we are no longer using Facebook for any Neil Young related activities. Meta's use of chatbots with children is unconscionable. Mr. Young does not want a further connection with FACEBOOK."
The singer's decision to remove his Meta social media accounts came after a report by Reuters revealed that Meta's AI chatbot was allowed to have conversations with children in which the chatbot was allowed to describe children in s*xual terms, especially with children over 13.
Neil Young is also not present on X
The singer recently also withdrew his presence from X. The singer made that announcement back in November 2023, after Elon Musk seemingly endorsed an anti-Semitic theory. The singer stated at that time that the reason he was taking that action would be obvious to Musk.
He also called for both Palestinians and Jewish friends to forget the past so that everyone could focus on saving the planet for future generations. The singer currently has a profile on Bluesky, his only official social media profile.
