Why is Justin Trudeau's Halloween costume being linked to Katy Perry? Possible "Left Shark" connection explored

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau recently started dating. The singer and the former Canadian prime minister acknowledged their relationship after they were spotted together on a yacht in Santa Monica and later holding hands at the Crazy Horse Paris, where the duo celebrated the former's 41st birthday.

This has triggered much speculation on the duo's online activities and social media usage. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the speculation surrounding Justin Trudeau's recent Halloween social media post, in which the former Canadian prime minister posed with his son, Hadrien Trudeau, in a shark costume. The ex-PM states in his post that he built the costume with his son.

The shark costume is linked to Katy Perry's 2015 tour in which her dancers dressed in costumes similar to the one Trudeau was wearing in the Halloween post. As per TMZ the left shark on Katy Perry's 2015 tour was the most remembered member of her dancers. The possible connection is that Justin Trudeau's statement and costume are an ode to that tour. Justin states in his post:

"Ready for Halloween with Hadrien: he’s the surfer, I’m the shark (to his left). We built the costume together — a little father-son Halloween teamwork."

Speculation suggests that when Trudeau mentions he is to the left, he is referring to the left shark from that 2015 tour by Perry. Fans seem to have picked up the same connection, as exemplified by the tweets given below:

"He’s in love with her, Katy Perry won in life." one netizen stated.

"Get yourself a man who is this OBSESSED with you and your career milestones bc this is so wholesome." another netizen stated.

"katy won the lottery." one fan noted.

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau started dating publicly in July 2025. The two were first spotted together in Mount Royal Park in Montreal, Canada. He was later spotted at her concert alongside his daughter.

In October, they are spotted on the yacht in Santa Barbara, as mentioned above. Then later that month Katy Perry refused a fan's marriage proposal stating the fact that she is no longer single.

On October 27, 2025, People published an exclusive report on the two, with statements from two sources close to the singer. The first source states:

"She's focused on her tour, and Justin has made a real effort to meet her where she is — literally. She's flattered. He's shown that he's committed and really cares about spending time with her. It's clear that he values the connection, and so does Katy. She's in a great place. Dating Justin is something she never saw coming, but she's really enjoying this surprising life twist."

The second source stated:
