Who was John Dineen? All about Michelle Dockery’s late fiancé as she expects her first child with Jasper Waller-Bridge

John Dineen and actress Michelle Dockery reportedly began dating in 2013. Two years into their relationship, Dineen passed away following a battle with cancer. The couple was reportedly engaged at the time of Dineen's death.

After his funeral, remembering John Dineen, Dockery said in a statement reported by The Irish Times:

"Whether in his work or his personal life John was extremely loyal. It was clear that when John was in your corner he was there. I was honoured to know John. To love him and be loved by him. He was my friend, my King, my hero, my everything. We celebrate him, we honour him and we will miss him."

Michelle Dockery married Jasper Waller-Bridge in 2023 in St. Nicholas Church in West London. At the premiere of her movie Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale that took place in London, England, the actress attended the event in a blue strapless dress.

While fans loved her look, they couldn't help but notice the baby bump, confirming the news of her pregnancy. The couple started dating in 2019 and got engaged after almost three years of dating.

John Dineen was from Waterfall, County Cork. According to CNN, he held the position of senior director at FTI Consulting, based in London. In 2014, while hinting at a relationship with Dineen, Michelle Dockery said:

"I have a wonderful man in my life from Ireland. We were introduced by Allen Leech. That’s all you need to know."

However, his death left a mark on Michelle's life. In an interview with The Guardian a year after his death, the actress told the outlet:

"I’ve never been more committed to anything in my life than to him. So at the time everything just shut down. Work, everything. Work didn’t matter. You suddenly become an [oncological] expert. This stuff becomes your world, and that of course was my priority."

Calling her a widow at that time, she added:

"Oh, I refer to myself as a widow, yes. We were engaged, and married at heart, and so I do consider myself a widow."

Dockery shared in the interview that John Dineen was a very private person, and they tried their best to keep his illness out of the public eye. She added that he never complained during his treatment, which gave them hope.

Her upcoming movie Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale is scheduled to release on September 12 in the USA. She was also seen recently in Flight Risk, released this year.
