Clive Owen began acting in 1987. At the time, he was only 23 years old. His film debut was in 1990 in the film Vroom. He played the role of Jake. As for his television debut, he appeared on Rockliffe's Babies in 1987, in the 'Up The Down Escalator' episode as PC Parslew.

Owen's career did not immediately take off. He only started gaining fame after starring in the British television crime drama series, Chancer. He played the characters of Derek Love/Stephen Crane in 20 episodes.

As for his films, Owen received critical acclaim for his role as Richard in Close My Eyes. Initially, Clive Owen was only famous in the UK, but playing Jack Manfred, a struggling writer in Croupier, brought him international fame.
