A Minecraft Movie has finally brought Jack Black's Steve to the screens. He tries to figure out a way out of the game's overworld with a group of people he meets. Jason Momoa tags along for the ride as the Garbage Man, while Danielle Brooks joins as estate agent Dawn. The only way they can leave this world is by mastering it. That's where Natalie (Emma Myers) and Henry (Sebastian Hansen) come in handy. Together, they help each other to finish a quest for the greater good.
In the end, they achieve what they set out to do. However, with an IP as popular as Minecraft, fans are bound to expect a follow-up project. The film's ending doesn't necessarily set it up for a sequel. However, there's a treat for the game's fans if they decide to stick around after the credits start rolling. For those who might be wondering, A Minecraft Movie includes a mid-credits and a post-credits scene. They reveal a potential future for Steve and Vice Principal Marlene while introducing a new character and a cast member.
A Minecraft Movie: What happens in the post-credit scenes?
A Minecraft Movie has hit the theaters, but before heading to the theaters, fans might want to know whether they should stay back after the credits roll for additional scenes. With projects based on popular IPs, that isn't unlikely. So, it's no surprise that the Minecraft movie has an additional two scenes at the end. The first appears in the middle of the credits, while the latter appears after the credits end.
The mid-credit scene shows Marlene (Jennifer Coolidge) reuniting with Nitwit, a jobless villager, whom she falls in love with during the course of the film. Unlike before, Nitwit has a clear voice and it is voiced by English actor Matt Berry, famous for playing a promiscuous vampire in What We Do in the Shadows. Through Berry's unmistakable voice, Nitwit proclaims his love for Marlene and reveals how it made him speak. So, Marlene might just leave her ex-husband Mr Grunchie for good.
Then, the post-credit scene shows Jack Black's Steve returning from Overworld to return to his old house. Turns out, his house got sold by the time he was away. He knocks on the door to meet the new owner. The camera stays behind this person. So, we do not see their face. However, the owner has orange/red hair and a green shirt and introduces themselves as Alex. The game fans would know Alex as one of the default skins, who is defined as genderless.
Do post-credit scenes set A Minecraft Movie up for a sequel?
Alex's inclusion in the post-credit scene of A Minecraft Movie opens it up for a follow-up. It can show Alex's journey along with Steve, who might plan to return to the overworld. A potential sequel can track his journey forward and show him on another adventure. It can also bring more skins (the game's customizable characters) to the screen to appease the fans.
On the other hand, the mid-credit scene also offers hope for Marlene's love story with Nitwit. So, a sequel can show how this vice principal and the villagers make it work as a couple.
