Popular American comedian and on-air personality Jimmy Kimmel is facing backlash following his commentary on political activist Charlie Kirk’s death. On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the Federal Communications Commission’s chairman, Brendan Carr, warned that the commission can take action against Disney and ABC.

During his appearance on Benny Johnson’s Wednesday, September 17, podcast, Carr described Jimmy Kimmel’s action as one of the sickest conduct possible.

“You know, when you look at the conduct that has taken place by Jimmy Kimmel, it appears to be some of the sickest conduct possible.”

He added that they have a strong case to hold Disney, ABC, and Jimmy Kimmel accountable for the latter’s malicious statement.

“This is a very, very serious issue right now for Disney. We can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to take action on Kimmel, or there is going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

He continued:

“They have a license granted by us at the FCC, and that comes with an obligation to operate in the public interest. There are calls for Kimmel to be fired. I think you could certainly see a path forward for suspension over this.”
“The FCC could make a strong argument that this is sort of an intentional effort to mislead the American people about a very core fundamental fact, a very important matter,” he added.

Brendan Carr called Disney to step up and control its individual licensed stations' content.

“Disney needs to see some change here, but the individual licensed stations that are taking their content, it's time for them to step up and say this, you know, garbage to the extent that that's what comes down the pipe in the future isn't something that we think serves the needs of our local communities. But, but this sort of status quo is obviously not, not acceptable where we are.”

What did Jimmy Kimmel say during his Monday evening monologue?

Jimmy Kimmel is under fire for his commentary about Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer, Tyler Robinson. According to the 57-year-old TV host, Tyler might have been a pro-Trump republican, and some people are trying to present him as anything other than that.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend, with the MAGA Gang (is) desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”
“In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving,” he added. “On Friday, the White House flew the flags at half-staff, which got some criticism. But on a human level, you can see how hard the president is taking this.”
