The Electric State: Release details, plot, cast and everything we know so far

The Electric State, a science fiction adventure comedy film directed by the Russo Brothers is set to be released by Netflix on March 14, 2025. The movie is an adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name written by Simon Stalenhag.

With Millie Bobby Brown (from Stranger Things) and Chris Pratt (known for his work in Marvel) as leads, The Electric State has reportedly raised eyebrows among fans shortly after the release of its first trailer.

Soon after the completion of The Gray Man(2022) and Brown concluding the shooting for Stranger Things season 4, the film's production began. The distribution rights were initially owned by Universal Pictures but were transferred to Netflix in 2022.

Principal photography took place in Atlanta and there were reportedly some delays in the production following the death of a crew member.

The movie revolves around a young woman named Michelle (played by Millie Bobby Brown) who teams up with a mysterious robot and a drifter (Chris Pratt) to set out on an adventure to find her younger brother across the retro-futuristic landscape of the United States.


When will The Electric State be released?

The Electric State is set to be released by Netflix on its OTT platform on March 14, 2025. As we witness in the trailer, the background set for the movie is a retro-futuristic United States dominated by robots as the protagonist embarks on a journey to find her brother.

There is so far no confirmation about the film's theatrical release.

The Electric State is based on the story of a young woman Michelle who embarks on a journey with a mysterious robot and an eccentric drifter (Chris Pratt) to find her brother Christopher (Woody Norman).

The movie is set in a retro-futuristic United States where we see robotic Artificial Intelligence waging war on humankind.

Peace prevailed for a while in the 90s until the clash between the two clans began. The storyline is aligned with the original novel written by Simon Stalenhag.

The group ventures through an electrified landscape and overcomes several hurdles to accomplish their mission. Anthony Russo had mentioned in a statement saying,

"The story felt like a fairy tale to us. We really wanted to play into those very elemental aspects of a fairy tale."

The cast of The Electric State has been divided into two categories. For the human cast, we have Millie Bobby Brown playing the role of Michelle along with co-star Chris Pratt (from Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers) joining her as Keats. Among others in the cast, we see:
