Bruce Banner turning into Smart Hulk looked like the perfect mix of brains and power. He could think clearly while still hitting hard. That version of Hulk brought logic into a world where rage used to lead. But in the Marvel Universe, being strong and smart is not always enough.
There are characters who exist on a level that makes brute force useless. Some can bend reality. Others can wipe out planets. A few just do not go down no matter what hits them.
Smart Hulk is impressive but he has a limit. That limit shows when he faces beings who do not rely on fists. These are characters who fight with magic or cosmic energy or even with the ability to erase you from existence. Hulk might stand tall in most battles but against these foes he either loses fast or slowly gets worn down.
This list is not about insulting him. It is about understanding where he fits in the big picture. You will see exactly why Hulk would fall short in these matchups. And in each case it is clear the loss would not come from weakness but from facing someone completely out of his league.
Hulk would lose to these 10 Marvel Comics showdowns
1. Sentry (Robert Reynolds)

Sentry fought World War Hulk to a standstill in World War Hulk #5 and both of them collapsed after burning through their powers. That Hulk was far angrier and much stronger than Smart Hulk could ever be and Sentry still held his own without backing down.
If Smart Hulk went against Sentry he would not last as long. He fights with more control but Sentry overwhelms with raw power and speed. The fight would end before Banner could adjust. That comic proved Sentry is one of the few who can actually match and stop a Hulk-level force with nothing but power.
2. Thanos (with or without Infinity Gauntlet)

Thanos defeated Hulk without effort in Infinity Gauntlet #4 and did it again in later battles across multiple runs. He never needed cosmic tools to break Hulk down. His punches hit harder and his mind stays sharp under pressure.
Smart Hulk thinks more but Thanos fights smarter. A calm approach would work against most foes but not someone who enjoys dragging fights out to wear you down. Hulk has never walked away from a Thanos fight as the winner. Every fight between them has ended with Hulk unconscious and that is not changing with this version of him.
3. Scarlet Witch (at full power)

Wanda removed the mutant gene from nearly every mutant on Earth in House of M #7. She did not need weapons or force. She simply said three words and rewrote everything. That level of control puts her far beyond anything Hulk can handle.
In a fight Wanda would not even let it begin. She would either pull the gamma from Banner’s cells or turn him into something harmless. Smart Hulk may be able to plan but there is no strategy against reality manipulation. Wanda ended an entire chapter of Marvel history with a whisper. Hulk would disappear just as fast.
4. Doctor Doom (Prepped)

Doom once absorbed the power of the Beyonder in Secret Wars and ruled over a reshaped universe. He has separated Hulk from Banner and drained gamma energy with machines and magic. With enough time Doom always builds the upper hand.
Smart Hulk may outmuscle him in a direct hit but Doom would never give him that chance. He would trap him in another dimension or rewrite his biology. Doom has used both tech and sorcery to beat stronger foes. Hulk would be another project to dissect. If Doom is ready, then Hulk has already lost before the first swing.
5. Jean Grey as Phoenix

Jean became the Phoenix in The Dark Phoenix Saga, and her power jumped to cosmic levels. She destroyed an entire star system and fought off multiple telepaths at once without blinking. She is not just strong. She is a force beyond life and death.
Smart Hulk would not get close. Jean would read his thoughts the moment he moved and stop him before he even got mad. She could phase him into something else or pull him apart at a molecular level. Hulk has no defense for that. Against Phoenix Jean, he would simply vanish from existence.
6. Silver Surfer

Silver Surfer beat Hulk in The Incredible Hulk #250 without using his full power. That Hulk was stronger than Smart Hulk and still lost fast. Surfer flew circles around him and ended the fight before it could turn physical. The Power Cosmic gives him energy control flight and near-limitless strength.
If Smart Hulk stepped up now he would not touch him. Surfer could drain his gamma energy or blast him into orbit. He once fought Mephisto inside his realm and escaped. Hulk is strong but this level of cosmic ability would shut him down before he could react.
7. Juggernaut (powered by Cytorrak)

In World War Hulk: X-Men #3, Hulk beat Juggernaut by making him move in the wrong direction. That version was not fully powered. When Juggernaut has full access to Cytorrak’s strength he cannot be stopped or hurt. He moves forward and nothing blocks him.
Smart Hulk could try to outthink him but none of that would land. Juggernaut does not slow down and never gets tired. He has fought Thor and walked through magic barriers without flinching. Hulk would run out of ideas before Juggernaut even noticed he was being hit. That fight would only go one way.
8. Molecule Man (Owen Reece)

In Fantastic Four #319, Owen Reece broke apart a cosmic-powered clone of the Beyonder. He controls all molecules which means he controls everything. Hulk’s skin muscles and even his gamma energy exist on the molecular level. That makes him easy work for Owen.
Owen would not fight him physically. He would reshape Hulk’s body or erase the gamma inside him. Reece once helped rebuild the multiverse with Franklin Richards. That is the level he plays on. Hulk fights with force but Owen changes what force means. Against that kind of power Hulk would never make it past the first second.
9. Franklin Richards (Adult)

As a kid Franklin Richards created universes for fun. In Heroes Reborn, his powers shaped entire realities. By adulthood he surpassed most cosmic beings. He has the ability to alter time space and matter just by thinking about it. Hulk has no defense against that.
Smart Hulk would not last even a moment. Franklin could turn him into something else or remove him from the universe entirely. Franklin once brought Galactus back as his herald. That is the level of power he commands. Hulk has strength but Franklin bends the very idea of what strength is.
10. Galactus (Well-fed)

In Fantastic Four #243, Galactus stood tall against Thor the Thing and other heavy-hitters while barely reacting. That was when he had recently fed. A well-fed Galactus operates as a cosmic constant and does not engage in regular fights. He erases problems.
If Smart Hulk fought him during that state, he would be vaporized or drained instantly. Galactus feeds on planetary energy and could rip the gamma from Hulk’s body without blinking. This is not a fair fight. It is not a fight at all. Hulk is powerful, but Galactus is a force beyond physical challenge.
