The murder mystery film franchise Scream is set to release its newest piece Scream 7, directed by Kevin Williamson, the original writer of the thriller saga. The first movie came out in 1996 and since then, there have been a lot of developments as the main fictitious character Ghostface eventually evolved.
Till Scream 6, 2023, fans have always been engaged with surprising elements of horror and thriller. Now, with the announcement of the new movie, the excitement has peaked. However, a number of changes will be seen in the cast and crew, which is one of the possible reasons for the slight delay in the film's production, reports.
The last two movies in the series (Scream 2022 and Scream 6, 2023) were released keeping a short gap in between. On the other hand, reports of Scream 7 being aired in early 2026 is being speculated among the audience.
When will Scream 7 be released?
As per reports, there had been quite a lot of anticipation about Scream 7's release due to the changes in production timeline. Christopher Landon, initially in charge of direction, left the set because of the cast turmoil, leaving the film's production in question. But, to the fans' relief, the official confirmation has finally arrived from a post on Neve Campbell's (playing the role of Sidney Prescott) social media handle.
As mentioned in the same, Kevin Williamson's Scream 7 will be released on February 27, 2026, which is a Friday. The post on Campbell's Instagram handle shows a graphic representation of the date marked out on a calendar. The signature murder weapon of Ghostface is seen stabbed into the paper with some spots of blood smeared on the side.
Moreover, Sidney's comeback was highlighted in an earlier post by Neve Campbell where she reportedly expressed her excitement of being a part of Williamson's lead cast.
Who is on the cast of Scream 7?
As mentioned earlier, Neve Campbell will return as the classic Sidney Prescott in Scream 7. Jenna Ortega, to everyone's surpirse. will not continue as Tara Carpenter. Moreover, Melissa Barrera is also off the list - a result of her reported engagements in social media fury regarding the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The shake up of the crew led to an unwanted delay in the beginning of the movie's production as Christopher Landon left in between, leaving the lens to Kevin Williamson, who will now direct the seventh part.
There is so far no offficial confirmation on whether Courteney Cox will resume her role as Gale Weathers though she reportedly mentioned during the first anouncement of Scream 7 in March,

Patrick Dempsey will reportedly be a part of the cast, playing the role of Det. Mark Kincaid though there is no official confirmation yet. The return of Mason Gooding ( Chad) and Jasmin Savy Brown as Mindy Meeks- Martin is still uncertain, reports.
The thriller franchise will supposedly shift towards the original stars. So, the cast of Scream 7 will definitely look quite different from its prequel.
What can we expect to see in Scream 7?
With Melissa Barerra leaving the franchise, the character of Sam Carpenter will reportedly meet the end of her storyline thereby shifting the main focus towards Sidney Prescott played by Neve Campbell, who has been a part of the Scream series since the first movie.
So far, there are no official details about the movie's plot and it could turn in any possible direction. The earlier speculation among the fans about Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard) not being dead raised a lot of questions about his return.
The possibility that he faked is death yet remains to be explored. Moreover, fans are eagerly waiting to witness the performance of Scream 7 as it goes on to continue the line of meta-commentaries the franchise had designed over the years.
As its prequel hit the box office with $166.3 million in collections, Scream 7 is something the audience is really looking forward to and announcements have already been made about its release in early 2026.
