The Marvel Cinematic Universe recently revealed who will be their Doctor Doom, Robert Downey Jr., in Avengers: Doomsday. Now, the former Iron Man actor might have shown us how this new Doctor Doom will be. For starters, he might bring a curly hairstyle with him. Or maybe it's just a happy gesture for his fans.

Recently, on his birthday (April 4, 2025), some fan slipped a concept art featuring him as the upcoming antagonist on a birthday card. A purple cloak with fur, a green suit, and the face appeared as RDJ's face was made into a golden mask. But most importantly, he had curly hair.

It wasn't long before Robert Downey Jr. himself came up with a similar hairstyle. He was chilling on his birthday, as can be seen in this image a hospitality worker dubbed Alessio Caputo shared on his Instagram channel.

Past Dooms were serious; even their hair was serious, something that a CEO of a company would approve of. If this is the look Robert Downey Jr. is bringing, that's a reflection of his sassy persona. But the thing is, will that work? Maybe. Here's what fans think about this.

Fan reactions on Robert Downey's potential Doctor Doom look in Avengers: Doomsday

As we said, Doctor Doom is a pretty serious character. This look shared on the internet just makes the fans think that Marvel is messing around with him. Sir Jean Luc Connery writes,

"Marvel is turning DOOM into a CLOWN."

Though we must tell them that the card is not Marvel's courtesy. But we won't say anything about Downey's hairstyle.

A user saw it and was instantly convinced that this should not be the final design for Victor Von Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. This user, dubbed Jam of da Bam, writes,

"Please don't let this doom be the final design... please... no..."

But a few other fans had different thoughts and thought that this hairstyle was just fine. A user called Chris says,

"The hairstyle will be great!!! Can’t wait to see the actual look."

Another one, dubbed TheLegacyScale, was a bit confused as the fan's comment clearly indicates who writes,

"Idk, I like it. RDJ is a great and terrible idea for doom."

But the most interesting ones were the fans who literally took the attention away from the good-bad debate. They think the hairstyle resonates somewhat with Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Watiti. The user Johnny Silverhand says,

"Going for that Taika Waititi look."

A user called @Doniiivan, who also feels the hairstyle is similar, writes,

"Why did he style his hair like Taika Wakiti ???"

Robert Downey Jr. as Victor Von Doom in Avengers: Doomsday is exciting, but the MCU should make sure not to experiment too much with this character, especially with the hair.

What do we know about Robert Downey Jr.'s character in the film?

Other than the fact that he is playing the antagonist in Avengers: Doomsday, there is no official detail giving us a hint of what brings him to the MCU (one reason is Jonathan Major's Kang).

Recently, Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, said that the heroes unite against the villain who thinks he is a hero. If we go by the rumors, he is likely set out to avoid a multiversal collapse. If we are lucky, we will see that stage setting in The Fantastic Four: First Steps only. He may appear in a cameo in it, too.
