Chris Evans may not be the only Avenger playing two roles in the MCU since his castmate Robert Downey Jr. is all set to return to the universe as Doctor Doom. As fans already know, the Iron Man star is going to play the big bad in the upcoming Doomsday project. It's not like Tony Stark was the most ideal person, but he was still a hero in this universe. However, Doctor Doom will offer Robert Downey Jr. to be a formidable villain and threaten the world, which he once tried to save.

While only two of Robert Downey Jr.'s MCU roles have been revealed so far, he might be playing a few more in the upcoming Avengers movies. The rumor comes from the Huntsville Pop Culture Expo 2025, where Chris Claremont, a veteran Marvel Comics writer, mentioned something along these lines. He reportedly dropped a few more surprises, including a potential return of Scarlet Witch and the introduction of a few more characters like Hydra Cap and Phoenix with some old faces.

The studios have not confirmed any of these details just yet. However, it might be a cause for celebration for Robert Downey Jr. fans, who just can't have enough of him on the big screen. While the Iron Man star might be playing four (or more) characters, there is another actor who has done this in the MCU.

Before Robert Downey Jr., Nathan Fillion has played at least four characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Nathan Fillion is all set to star in James Gunn's upcoming Superman as Green Lantern Corp's Guy Gardner. This is not the only time he has played one of the DC comic characters since he has also appeared as The Detachable Kid, AKA T.D.K., in Gunn's The Suicide Squad. He has also voiced Hal Jordan in some DC animated shows but lost the chance to Ryan Reynolds at the time.

However, Fillion has starred as at least four characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and three of these were directed by James Gunn. The surprising part is he has been in all three Guardians of the Galaxy movies as three totally different characters. In the first movie, he voice acted for a character credited as the "monstrous inmate," who tries to scare away Chris Pratt's character in the prison.

After this brief appearance, Fillian reportedly starred as an actor who goes on to become Wonder Man in a deleted scene. However, this role has reportedly gone to Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (the star of Damon Lindelof's Watchmen series), who is slated to play it in a series. In the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie, Fillian starred as Master Karja, while in Deadpool & Wolverine, he voiced one of Deadpool's variants, Headpool (the decapitated head that floats around.)

Robert Downey Jr.'s Doomsday role might be bigger than expected

With Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars, Robert Downey Jr. might be playing multiple characters, per the comments from Chris Claremont. It's important to note that these comments have not been officially confirmed. However, it would make the Robert Downey Jr. fans happy regardless.
