What is the plot of Nosferatu?

Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror, released in 1922, is the main framework on which the 2024 movie will be remade. It is a gothic story that explores the infatuation of a monster over a woman who is being haunted - set in Germany in the 1920s.

The term Nosferatu, derived from a Romanian word, means offensive or insufferable. But over the years, Nosferatu has been synonymously used with the term 'vampire,' though they are not exactly the same. Count Orlok (played by Bill Skarsgård in the new movie) is famous for his ghastly portrayal and is seen as an object of terror.

The 1979 remake of Nosferatu is a clubbed version of the first movie released in 1922 and the main novel based on Dracula. All the characters from Stoker's novel retained their presence in this revamp, bringing controversies to the foreground, which eventually led to the next question—is there any difference between Nosferatu and Bram Stoker's Dracula? Or are they the same? Follow the next section to find out more about this.

Speculations have been brought forth linking Nosferatu to Dracula. According to reports, Dracula is the predecessor of Nosferatu, and that has been clearly witnessed in the silent film of 1922, where the story of Dracula was unofficially adapted.

The characters' names were changed, and Count Dracula became known as Count Orlok. However, the two characters are quite different in terms of their aura and appearance. Dracula, as played by various actors like Bela Lugosi or Christopher Lee, has quite a gentlemanly presence.

On the other hand, Nosferatu is very different. He has an animal-like appearance with a touch of rawness; he would not bite others to turn them into vampires but rather kill them. Carrying the title of 'Bird of Death,' his name suits his character pretty well - a more fearful villain than Dracula's looks.

What do the fans think of the connection?

Many fan theories and explanations have come forward amidst the remake of Nosferatu. One of the users on Reddit, MTBurgermeister mentioned,
