American journalist and prominent television presenter Katie Couric is currently making headlines following her return to the Today show after 25 years. While she appeared on the show as a guest, the former co-host, Couric, created history with her dedicated efforts in spreading awareness about colon cancer.

Couric, 68, who co-hosted the Today show from 1991 to 2006, appeared on the September 25, 2025, episode, where she also promoted her new project that advocates for colorectal cancer. While many people and netizens are wondering what exactly happened to Katie Couric, the veteran journalist returned to the famous morning show to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her on-air colonoscopy.

Katie Couric became the first person in the world to undergo a colonoscopy on live television in 2000. She took the opportunity to show the world how exactly a colonoscopy works to detect possible signs of cancer. Couric, besides being a prominent TV presenter and journalist, is also the founder of a multimedia news and production company, Katie Couric Media.

It was her husband, John Monahan's death due to colorectal cancer, that inspired Couric to spread awareness of cancer. Monahan died in 1998, at the age of 42. On the latest episode of the Today show, Couric spoke about her work and how she continues her advocacy for cancer, saying:

"It's crazy, it's been 25 years, it's something I'm really proud of."

As Couric celebrated her 25th anniversary of her on-air colonoscopy on the Today show, the renowned television presenter recently joined a nonprofit organization, Colorectal Cancer Alliance (Alliance), one of the leading organizations in America that works toward ending colon cancer. Couric also collaborated with actor Ryan Reynolds' film production company, Maximum Effort, for LEAD FROM BEHIND.

According to Businesswire, LEAD FROM BEHIND is a series of videos, created entertainingly, while featuring popular personalities and celebrities, that destigmatize colon cancer and begin a conversation about it. Couric joins the initiative to request people to get checked, irrespective of family history or genes.

Katie Couric, along with Ryan Reynolds, Terry Crews, Dak Prescott, and Rob Mac and The Alliance, motivate people to check out the LEAD FROM BEHIND initiative to learn more about colon cancer and its symptoms, risks, and factors.

Regarding her partnership with The Alliance and LEAD FROM BEHIND, Couric said:

"My husband had no family history of colon cancer, but that is the case for the majority of people who are diagnosed with this disease. I don’t want anyone to go through what we went through, so I’ve partnered with the Colorectal Cancer Alliance and LEAD FROM BEHIND to spread awareness about timely screening. Colon cancer can be silent, but can also be preventable with screening."
