American footballer and NFL star Baker Mayfield, who plays as the quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in a recent interview, mocked his 2017 college arrest and made fun of himself while speaking on ManningCast, hosted by former National Football League players Eli and Peyton Manning.
The 30-year-old Mayfield, who previously played college football for the Oklahoma Sooners, after the Arizona Cardinals vs the Dallas Cowboys match appeared as a guest on ManningCast on November 3, 2025.
During his conversation with Peyton and Eli Manning, when Baker Mayfield was asked about one of his recent runs, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' quarterback jokingly mentioned and referenced his 2017 arrest, which, interestingly, involved running away from the police. Baker Mayfield said:
"I tried one time in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It didn't go too well. Wound up getting arrested."
While the Manning brothers laughed at his self-deprecating joke, Mayfield went ahead and said:
"But I've improved since then, so, you know, just finding time whenever I can."
To which Peyton Manning responded:
"Hey, it's all about getting better."
After Baker Mayfield's MannigCast interview, his fans and other NFL enthusiasts became curious to find out why he was arrested. According to People Magazine, Mayfield, who has been married to the internet personality Emily Wilkinson since 2019, with whom he shares a daughter, was arrested in 2017 for public intoxication, resisting arrest and fleeing, and disorderly conduct in Arkansas.
As reported by ESPN at the time, the Washington County police stated:
Mayfield had "slurred speech, had difficulty walking down stairs and was covered in food on the front of his clothing."
According to ESPN, when the police got hold of him, Mayfield tried to run away from them despite being asked to cooperate with them.
Baker Mayfield issued an apology on social media after being arrested in 2017

Following his 2017 arrest, the NFL star, Mayfield, issued an apology on X (formerly Twitter) and stated how embarrassed he was and how he regretted the whole matter. His X post read:
"I know that I represent the University of Oklahoma on a very large scale, therefore I know better than to bring bad attention and scrutiny to the school and people that I love. The shame, guilt, and embarrassment I have felt over the past few days and continue to feel is something I would never wish upon anybody."
He also mentioned everyone at the Oklahoma Sooners, and wrote:
"To all of my coaches and brothers, I am sorry for not being the leader you know I am."
Mayfield further added:
"I know that this adversity is directly caused by my own actions and I have nobody to blame but myself, but I will own up to it, look it in the face, and I will be a better person in the long run."
Baker Mayfield, who joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2023, previously played for the Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers.
